Lily Evans is brilliant, remarkably so.

She is one of the only women who has been able to keep up with him in terms of wit. She has a sharp tongue and a quick mind; a lethal combination for anyone seemingly unprepared. Lily is a force, both intense and powerful.

And yes, she is beautiful —— in a ridiculous stop James Potter in his tracks and cause him to blush exceedingly type of way —— but any man or woman who were to simplify her in such terms was, put plainly, a complete and utter moron.

Perhaps his views of her could be seen in a negative light. James has placed her on a pedestal that not many could live up to. He has taken a perfectly imperfect teenage girl and symbolized her as flawless, something that was completely unfair of him to do.  Of course, he doesn’t see the problem with this. He maintains that her flaws are nonexistent, merely quirks he has learned to love.

Only recently has he grown to call her his friend. This new development has caused him to step back in terms of relentless flirting and childish antics. He tell others that this is due to his new title as Head Boy; however, deep down, he hopes she sees and respects the change, possibly even acting upon it.

A guy can dream.

Aching Hope || Severus and Lily

He missed her, and there was simply no denying that. Severus presumed that Lily would be pleased to hear about his social progress. Merlin, he was no social butterfly, but Severus most certainly had emerged from his metaphorical cocoon, and he was beginning to appreciate many of the people around him whom he had once overlooked. Many of those individuals caused him to reconsider a long grudge that he had held against Gryffindors. He still believed a majority of them to be babbling and irresponsible baboons, but how could he think so when ironically, the majority of the people whom he could loosely consider his friends belonged to the house of the brave? Molly Prewett was the first acquaintance. He appreciated the quiet and kindness of her presence. She was wholesomely humble and gentle, and Severus did not have to fear for his own safety around her. She was protective too, in a sense. Then there was Rolanda, a person whom he had always been curious about because someone who only focused on Quidditch had to have something more deeply confined, right? Severus had been correct in his analysis, and was pleased that he had already made plans to go to Hogsmeade with the girl. But there was an undeniable loneliness creeping into his heart because he had gone a longer amount of time without spending time with Lily than he found tolerable. Only Lily could fill that void of loneliness in the pit of his chest. Only Lily could make him smile; only Lily's gentle laughter could fill his heart with incomparable glee and contentment. For that reason, Severus prepared an owl, and sent her a message. He asked for her to meet him near the Black Lake, his favorite solitary location, to spend some time together. He described how much he had missed her in the note, and concluded the message saying that he hoped that she was well, and requesting that she reply, should she find that option preferable. Severus sent the message off feeling a light happiness in his chest, hoping that he might hear from the beloved flower soon.

A friend/best friend memory:

Eleven-year-old Mary MacDonald didn’t speak the entire train ride from Kings Cross Station to Hogsmede, avoided eye contact with just about everyone as a fleet of self-steering boats skimmed slowly across the Black Lake, and tangled her hands together as she joined her fellow Gryffindors in the Great Hall for the very first time. The nerves in her stomach were bundled so tightly that she hardly ate anything that night, and ascended the many moving staircases into the Gryffindor common room only to curl up in an armchair by the fire, watching as everyone else talked in excited hums about classes and quidditch tryouts. It was then that a rush of red hair enveloped her entirely, arms thrown around her neck so tightly that she nearly keeled over and elbows pinned to her sides so that she couldn’t react even if she’d wanted to. The girl, whoever she was, spoke very quickly, conversation starting with how absolutely thrilled she was to have so many girls in her year and moving to a debate as to whether she would able to magically pierce her own ears, should she want to. She pulled back, her green eyes sparkling with unrivaled excitement, and Mary couldn’t help but break into a smile, knowing that whoever this girl was, she would be by her side for seven whole years.

Long Overdue | Mary and Lily

A hard blazing look in her eyes, Mary MacDonald was on a mission. It had been three days now since she had locked eyes with Lily knowingly during the most recent Room of Requirement festivities, trying to cryptically communicate with one another but to no avail. Naturally, this called for a bombastic intervention, and Mary was all too eager. The name James Potter had hung with a different sense of tension lately. Whether it was because he had done something asinine or Lily had done something, well, Lily-esque, she was determined to find out. But there was also the matter of running into Severus not once, but twice in the past week, and his uncharacteristically kind behavior on both occasions. Between juggling both ambiguous issues, Mary was infinitely puzzled, but it wasn’t something an armful of stolen sweets (compliments of a certain Sirius Black) and makeshift pillow forts certainly couldn’t remedy.

“Caput leonis,” she announced to the Fat Lady’s portrait, which promptly swung open to reveal a warm fireplace and several fat armchairs. There were a few students milling about as there always were in the early evening, casually revising or catching up on the week’s events, but Mary knew that Lily would be cooped up in her four poster bed where the quiet served as a welcome environment for concentration. In her free hand, Mary snatched a few pillows from the nearest couch and scurried up the spiral staircase to the girls’ dormitory. Pushing through the heavy oak door, she could see Lily’s mass of scarlet tresses laid out on the pillows that had been propped up against her headboard, just as she had anticipated.

“Right,” she called, striding over to Lily’s bedside and dumping the assortment of packaged cauldron cakes, treacle tarts, and pumpkin pasties onto the patterned sheets, tossing the common room pillows against the footboard. Reaching to her own bed, she grabbed a fistful of white sheet and pulled it swiftly from beneath her quilts. “You. And. I. Have. Matters. To. Discuss!” Each word was emphasized by an attempt to pitch her sheet over the bedposts, a task difficult for, though practiced determinedly by, Mary’s short frame. As the sheet finally was slung lazily to create a haphazard roof, Mary kicked off her shoes and climbed into Lily’s bed with an expectant grin, drawing the curtains shut behind her. Hugging her knees to her chest, she raised an eyebrow, dark eyes sparkling.

Adoration was an undefinable emotion. It crossed the eyes and faces of those who experienced it in very different expressions. On some, the look was subtle, and only their eyes revealed the true feeling which they underwent. Others could not process the emotion personally, and could only feel it on the inside as it festered there, growing into something beautifully concealed. And then there was Severus Snape. Bullied and abused, Severus Snape, someone who had the potential to be great. To achieve the greatest accomplishment in the world. To love others and to love himself. But that potential was demolished by circumstance, and as Lily cupped his face softly, his eyes closed in unmistakable personal agony as he grieved, wanting more than anything to go back to the meadow. For something heavenly to take them back to the start where their love could be possible again. "Lily..." He sputtered, the tears soaking all of his features and causing his stomach to drop painfully. Then, she kissed him, and everything went to a blissful hell. The broken jaw of a heavenly kingdom. His lips met hers weakly, expressing that all he had ever needed was this moment of connection, between two people who loved each other. Who needed each other. He kissed her, knowing that he would never be given the chance again, and tried with all of his power to show her how much he loved her through the tortured motion of his lips. Through the contact that he had so desperately wanted to be perpetual. When she pulled away, he choked on his emotion. "Lily..." He repeated, gazing at her and cupping her cheeks, his eyes softer than they had ever been. "Lily.. I need you to know.. I need it more than anything.." He stroked the red hair, remembering all of the times that he had done so in the meadow, placing flowers there, imagining doing the same on their wedding day that would never come. "That your blood status never mattered to me. Even when I feigned arrogance and discrimination, that I never meant the terrible things that I said. That even then, I loved you as wholesomely as I did as a child. That I love you more than anything now.. That I will always cherish you for the beautiful woman whom you are. That I always will..."

Sleeping at Sunrise || James & Lily

Wiping the sleep from his eyes James turned over in his bunk. A sleeping Lily Evans lay peacefully beside him, green eyes closed and auburn hair littering their shared pillow. The glowing sun was not yet present in the sky surrounding Hogwarts castle, and James was thankful for the earliness, as it allowed him more time to just exist with Lily Evans so near by. Wrapping a strong arm around her, he cuddled close, the same way they had fallen asleep the night before. His entire bed smelled of her rose perfume and James practically drank in the sent, inhaling deeper than he usually did.

Although the details from the night before were quite fuzzy, James could pick out the chain of events in his groggy mind. He had stumbled upon a group of people holding a party in the Room of Requirement, there had been drinking games and then spin the bottle. James had kissed several girls, not including Lily, and it had made her actually turn color with jealousy. Lovingly he had explained to Lily that he only had eyes for her, that he did not plan on leaving her side unless she turned him away -and to his surprise she did quite the opposite an asked him to stay. They had walked through the castle, from the Room of Requirement and into the grounds to get some fresh air. James knew a thing or two about dealing with drunks and how to avoid a terrible hangover the following day, and fresh air was the first step. Then James had tried to separate himself from Lily and put her to sleep in her own bed, but they had ended up curled up into each others arms in James' bed.

Gently and with shaking fingers James brushed Lily's red hair to reveal her sweet face. For a few moments he watched her breathe as she slept in his arms. leaning down to kiss the stark porcelain skin of Lily's forehead, James thought of how greatfull he was for the sleeping angel beside him. "Good Morning Beautiful." He whispered softly.

Fork in the Road || Lily & James

Completely satisfied with himself and his comrades, James left the bustling Great Hall. He was introspective as he headed to have a few moments to himself in the common room before it too was crowded with angry Gryffindors who wanted his hide. This was the first successfully prank pulled off this year and James was feeling the elation fill his body as he reached the portrait hole. He politely mumbled the password to The Fat Lady before claiming inside to the empty common room. It was a sight for sore eyes, finally he would have a moment to himself without anyone interogating him about the recent prank and ongoing aftermath. Instantly, he fell into a soft maroon armchair. Out of his peripheral vision James spotted a flash red hair. Lily Evans. His heart stopped, his blood drained from his face, and his skin went cold.
