Across the midnight sands the small convoy set out. A dozen jeeps and small vehicles drove across the desert on the moonless night. The mission of the cover group was to knock out a German supply depot, where munitions, fuel, and weapons were being massed. The group was made up of British soldiers of the Long Range Desert Group, Free French, and Americans in Secret Action Force Hercules. Oliver Cross, newly promoted to Captain, was in the lead jeep with Major Portsmouth, the englishman in command of this operation, and Lt. Hawkins. Cpl. Prochainezo and Ennis rode in the 4th jeep back. Maj. Portsmouth spoke to Cpt. Cross, “Are you sure bringing women on this expedition is a good idea?”
"For the hundredth time, yes. Sgt. Holystone is an expert at demolitions, the best I know. This mission is right up here alley. We’re to blow up tanks, vehicles, munitions, and supply, who better for the job than a bomb maker who’s been doing it since she was kid. And she doesn’t work unless her team is with her. And Cpl. Ennis, Cpl. Walken, Cpl. Barcelito are capable women in combat. I've seen their work firsthand. Ennis and Chane are some of the best undercover agents I've ever seen. And they're amazing with knives. My group works, it will work for this operation of yours."
"He’s right sir," says Lt. Hawkins, "The lady disarmed a bomb that dropped into the middle of Algiers. She was the only one that went in. I trust her, and you should too sir. And Oliver is right about the knives." Major Portsmouth was still disgruntled. Operation Glassblower was off to a rocky start, personnel wise.
