Weekly World Music: “Ederlezi”- Maria Mazzotta and Redi Hasa
“Ederlezi" is a popular traditional folk song of the Roma minority in the Balkans, and the Romani name for the Feast of Saint George, a traditional spring festival celebrated in Serbia and Bulgaria. The song has been translated into several languages, and performed by many folk artists from across Europe and the world, but is best known as performed in Goran Bregovic's film The Time of the Gypsies.
This version is sung with Romani lyrics by Italian folk singer Maria Mazzotta and Albanian cellist Redi Hasa.
