Eddie “The Entertainer” Shines in 5–1 Leafs Win at Chicago Stadium

January 6, 1963 was Eddie Shack’s night in Chicago.

The Maple Leafs defeated the Blackhawks 5–1 at Chicago Stadium, powered by a huge performance from Shack and Red Kelly, who combined for eight points. Shack scored the first hat trick of his NHL career, while Kelly added a goal and three assists.

Dave Keon opened the scoring early, Shack followed with the eventual game-winner, and Toronto never looked back. Shack added two more in the third, both set up by Kelly, before Pierre Pilote spoiled the shutout late.

Efficiency defined the night: Kelly scored on his only shot, and Shack scored three times on four attempts. A classic Leafs road win and a signature game for Eddie “The Entertainer.”

Red Kelly, the gentlemanly legend of the Toronto Maple Leafs, did something he almost never did—he scored on a penalty shot! 💥 And not just any penalty shot… it was the only one he ever converted in 1,316 NHL games.

That goal completed his hat trick in a 6–3 win over the Canadiens at the Montreal Forum. 😮‍💨 Kelly also added an assist, giving him 4 points on the night and helping push the Leafs toward another Stanley Cup.

I wanted to get another one up to continue the expectation of what you could get. The first panel showed where this was gonna go but I drew the other guy with short arms. Like a T-Rex. Then I got distracted.

So… I guess you can expect me getting distracted a lot and running off on a tangent.

And I think I like his buddy. He might become a regular. Why wouldn’t a T-Rex be friends with a bushranger?
