Truly a one-of-a-kind piece. This is made out of Red Mallee Burl from Australia . Mallee is in the Eucalyptus family. Turning an unbalanced, odd shaped piece like this is a true testament to the woodturner’s skill and ability , well done Maggie Irving - Turning Point, the result is undeniable. This bowl is lovely and would make a great centrepiece for a table. It has a shallow basin and wouldn't really hold much of anything, and is NOT food safe. This piece is purely decorative - a talking point. This bowl as a ‘live ‘ edge, meaning its edges are untouched and natural, rough and rustic - see photo above. Red mallee burls are prized for their dramatic and interesting grain as well as their density and hardiness. £45 with FREE UK postage. Barn Owl Bothy. Ugh phone spelling!
Fear not. I understood it was a typo. :) As someone who writes weird things and doesn’t even have the excuse of the phone, I would sympathise nevertheless.

Short stories are wonderful. I got into them because I do a lot of reading while travelling so its perforce bite sized reading. She is a good writer for sure.
I’ve definitely grown more interested in short stories after that class and I think I will feel similarly about Lahiri’s writing after reading this one.

Her prose is so honed and precise. The themes get a bit repetitive spmetimes.
I had never read anything by her, so I haven’t been confronted with repetitive themes, but I’m very much enjoying the details and the way the writing is, as you well say, precise. I can easily ‘see’ what she’s telling us and the story feels ‘lived-in’, if this makes any sense, @redmallee.
As weird as it may sound, I had never read many short stories until the class I took on the ‘genre’ (?), but it’s so interesting how even in a short time and space they can be immersive and telling.
Hi there, I have been away for a bit and might have missed your photos on my phone. I tried looking through the blog but couldn't find it. If you haven't done it that's cool- I always worry about tagging people! - and I know you said you did the challenge earlier. Perhaps you could send that link?

Ah the last two - Joan and a Phryne sort. Excellent. Love it, like a London tour!
I’m glad to know you enjoyed the little London tour, redmallee . :) Joan and the Phryne-like are really up my alley obviously. Fun fact: that illustration was what I used to represent ‘my character’ in that assignment I mentioned once that may spawn a MFMM fic set in the French Riviera.
