There was a loud bang, and Mikasa hit the ground. Hard. There was also a definite ring in her ears that wouldn't go away. Must have been from the loud noise.
...What just happened?
Jean and Mikasa had just been taking a short cut to the warehouse after school, when they had come across someone that Jean noticed, but Mikasa hadn't seen yet. Then, she felt a force push her away, causing her to land on the ground just a few feet away.
The teenager looked up through raven locks, eyes gazing at Jean, who was clenching his chest in pain, near his shoulder. "Jean...?" But her eyes slowly began to widen in realization.
--No... No, no no...
It was Annie, wasn't it?
She was going to shoot me...
"--Jean!" Mikasa calls, her voice breaking as it reached a high pitch. It wasn't like her to lose her composure like this. He had saved her. Jean had pushed her out of the way... Why did he do that...?
Rushing to his side as he dropped to the ground, his back against the brick of the wall of one of the buildings in the alleyway, she reached for his hands to tear away from the wound. She looked around, seeing that Annie had fled, and sirens were heard just in the distance.
"Jean! Jean? Jean, can you hear me?" She asks, getting a look at the gunshot wound which was bleeding profusely. He was starting to nod off, so Mikasa's hand went to his shoulder, "Hey... Hey! Look at me!" She shook him a little, trying to keep him conscious. His eyes met hers. The teenager took off her jacket, pressing it against the wound, "You're going to be alright, okay?"
You're going to be alright....
The gunshot had pierced just above his heart. An almost fatal wound. But he was going to die if he didn't get treated soon, or he was going to bleed to death. "Jean, come on, stay with me!"
Police sirens got louder until they came to a stop just at the end of the alley way, "Hey! Someone get an ambulance! Someone help!" She was almost frantic now, "Someone help!"
At the hospital: A few hours later
Mikasa sat there at his hospital bed, never leaving at that very spot. Everyone had come and gone, but Marco stayed as long as she had, so it was mostly just her and Marco sitting there in silence as they patiently waited for Jean to wake up. However, he went to go to the bathroom, which was the first moment she got to be alone with Jean, even if he was unconscious.
He had saved her. That bullet was originally intended for her. Jean risked his life to save hers... It was a debt she would never be able to repay. How stupid of him--risking his life--willing to die for her?
Raven locks fell in her face as she lowered her head, her hands tightened up in fists in her lap as she forced back tears, "--Jean..." She uttered.
".... You idiot."
Why did he hurt so much? Why did this keep on happening to him? Jean couldn't really remember what was going on or how he got here--wherever here was--but the last thing he did remember was walking home with Mikasa. After that, he was not too sure. it hurt to think about, actually. There was 'BANG' and then--and then what? Sucking in a sharp breath, he found himself chocking and sputtering around a tube and he wheezed, eyes flashing open.
Jostling in his bed, he sat up, though he instantly regretted the sudden movement. A sharp, burning pain racked through him and he trembled, collapsing just as quickly against the bed. "F--Fuck!" Wincing, his good hand came around to his shoulder, gripping at the fabric of the hospital gown. Breathing heavily, he let out a sharp breath before he turned his head to the side. When his eyes settled on Mikasa, the memories came flashing back.
"Mikasa, are you okay? Were you hurt?" Never mind his wounds. He refused so see anyone hurt as long as he could help it again.
