I really wanna know why you had the sudden urge to know all of harry potter word by word! :-) >What was the scenario?
Well, to begin with, it may as well be 2007 again for I've reached a new peak of HP-obsession. The new wave of obsession started half a year ago with me listening to the Stephen Fry audio books of HP and has continued with ridiculous quantities of fan fiction and then today again I started listening to the series on audiobook again.
And I was just thinking about how I'm probably going to continue to spend a month every year of the rest my life listening through the HP books again and again. And I was wondering how long it would take before I started being able to quote even more of the books than I am presently. Because, despite how completely familiar the words are, at this point I couldn't even repeat the first paragraph of the series. I wondered if I would ever be able to do so without intentionally learning it. And then, all at once, I had the urge to cultivate the talent of memorizing and being able to retell the HP series myself, if not in full, just my favourite parts.
I can totally just imagine being at a party or hanging out with friends and being able to just start telling the story of Fred and George and Umbridge and the portable swamps. Or orate Harry going into the forest with the stone and the knowledge of the inevitability of his own demise. The tale of Three Brothers. Perhaps the chapters of Harry, Hermione and the time turner. Harry and the graveyard. Harry and every specific interaction he has with Sirius. A compilation of the appearances and mentions of Dobby. Just bits and pieces of all of it, if not the whole series. Wouldn't it be cool to just have a person in the group of friends who can always entertain with stories within Harry Potter?
I don't know that I'll actually do it. But listening through this time, I might just mark the parts I feel the most desire to learn. Or maybe I'll just learn one bit and see how valuable it is to actually be able to do that.
Thanks for asking this, it was actually really fun to answer. :)
