Lowering Meat and Dairy Consumption for a Sustainable Life
(This is apparently a Quinoa and Carrot veggie burger. I am not a huge fan of quinoa, but I would like to give this burger a try.)
I am just going to say it, I am not 100% vegan. I do my best, eat a mainly plant-based diet, and work to keep my animal product consumption at a minimum.
I am 100% under the idea that you can make great gains in reducing CO2 emissions, methane emissions, pollutants, and even water usage, by cutting down on the meat and dairy in your lives.
Now does this mean that you have to eliminate them? No. Not everyone is going to go vegan, but everyone can be a reducitarian. Meat Free Mondays, or even just eliminating red meat entirely, can have heaps of benefits to your health, as well as the environment.
Switching out meat with plant-based alternatives will work too, and there are many more processed plant-meats, like the Morningstar Farm Chik’n Strips, that I enjoy a lot. This will be different for different people, but you do not have to consume rice and beans all the time to be an environmentalist.
Do what you can to reduce your impact within your own means. Many of us do not earn a lot. Many of us have dietary issues that make it much harder to eat certain plant-based foods, like soy, or wheat.
Any little bit that you can do matters, and don’t feel bad if you cannot be 100% vegan. Simply lowering your meat/dairy consumption by half can do a lot for the environment.
