Enjoy!
Don’t be fooled by branding. Greenwashing is a real thing and a challenging one. It is tempting to trust everything that claims to be “green” or eco friendly, after all, we all want to do good but don’t always feel like putting the efforts. This is where greenwashing gets us... it frees our consciousness and we feel like we contribute. This “eco product” is a good example. A single use item is never eco friendly. If you pay attention, you’ll notice that it’s says on the back “NON COMPOSTABLE” ... That’s right. They use 30% plastic and 70% starch to manufacture this product. Which unfortunately means that it will and up in the landfill next to all the other plastic forks... Don’t let packaging, branding and design fool you. Think twice and always consider the impact.
Eating a plant-rich diet goes a long way!!! If you're trying to live a greener lifestyle, consider a plant-based diet. Depending on where we grew up, we might have a hard time considering cutting on meat and dairy, but the reality is that animal products are not sustainable anymore with the population we have and with the pace at which we are consuming. Consider switching at least one meal everyday to a plant-based only meal. For example, replace a morning yogurt for a smoothie bowl! Add some delicious nuts for proteins and enjoy the nutrients from the veggies and fruits! 💚🌱💚🥒 but mainly, save the planet and reduce your personal footprint.
A big part of Zero Waste is to plan ahead. Here we bought our cheese for the year! We bought the whole wheel so we don't get the unnecessary packaging. One home, we cut it, shred it and freeze it in glass jars. It's a bigger expense at first, but we save down the road and we always have cheese on hand 🧀 🌱
Going Zero Waste doesn’t only save the planet and your wallet — It also helps you make healthier choices! My husband has lost about 30 lbs of fat since the beginning of our Zero Waste journey. One thing leading to the other, he started enjoying this new healthy look and feeling and started to workout too. Less than 1 year later he looks younger and healthier that he ever been. I’m so proud of him. 30 lbs of fat gone, that he converted into a 30 pound of muscle! The right choices and hard work paid off. If you’re looking for a healthy diet, start by looking at the choices you make. The Zero Waste lifestyle will help you reaching your goals and saving the planet at the same time! Isn’t that a big win-win!
Zero Waste from hair to toes! 😛 Don't throw your hair away, use it for the good cause. Many groups like #Pantenebeautifullenghts will take your hair donation and create wigs out of it. The wigs are them given -for free - to patients who are losing their hair during cancer treatments. It's free to grow, so why not help?
Try the test , see your result and you can also decide to offset your footprint by donating.
Repost. A very easy way to go green. Eliminate that straw from your life. Set an example - some people might be a little turned off by it, but if you explain, they’ll start to understand.
Skip beef today.
A pound of beef costs 1,847 gallons of water per pound to produce as opposed to chicken, which costs 518 gallons. (Source: http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/5952862)
Skip beef tomorrow too. Opt for chicken or tofu. It’s tough; I like beef too. But the less of it we eat, the better.
Buying in Second Hand (online) shops, Car Boot Sales and Flea Markets | ecogreenlove
→ http://ecogreenlove.com/?p=2028
I love flea markets, I love second hand shops. If I can find something I like, or something I think it would be useful or “pretty” but is cheaper than if I would buy it on a store… I really wouldn’t mind if it was already used, as long as is still functional. I support this market because I think is part of an “eco-lifestyle”. What would be the point of upcycling and reusing if I’m buying more and more stuff from the big companies/stores? To me, I’m supporting the local business but also I’m avoiding the big consumerism. “Somebody’s trash, may be somebody’s treasure”. And if that comes with the “plus” of helping some charity cause, even better!
London’s sculpture sums it all…
A Free Box! Spotted in Telluride, CO. Is such a great idea to give and help your neighborhood while repurposing the items you don't use anymore. (books, board games, clothing, shoes and more) every body can start one in their community, ask your local library or city hall, or any business you may see fit :)
