Ann Burnham has almost finished her new reduction linocut, she is just deciding whether to add a final darker colour in some areas. After drawing the design, she transfers it to the Lino block in reverse. She then cuts away any area she wants to remain white and prints the lightest colour which is a blend of pale blue to pale pink. She then cuts away any area she wants to remain pale blue/pink and prints the next colour. Gradually carrying on until she has printed all the colours. She has to set the edition at the start, as the Lino is gradually cut away and can’t be used again.
This is Jennifer Jokhoo’s recently completed print. A beautiful linocut titled “Boxhill Sunset”. This print is a 2 layered reduction linocut. 10 colours in total have been used to create this print.
Jennifer added: “It seemed a pertinent time to complete this print after the recent heatwave and also to mark the Summer solstice!”
Using photographs taken of synthetically dyed flowers. I enhanced the outline, then sectioned the tonal colours to use as separate print layers for a reduction Lino print. Using three separate Lino. so can be reused for multiple prints. The difficulty being when only small areas are left to print it leaves possible unwanted print. However as most Lino leave this behind to can become part of the appeal. Showing true hand craft in the work.
