     A lot of the meals Jesse actually knows how to make, and associated scents, bring a hell of a lot of nostalgia to him (honestly, it’s half of the reason he cooks them). Most remind him of childhood, time spent watching his litta cook in the kitchen for the two of them.

      Jesse had a split lip after his first fight with some neighborhood kids. He sniffled from his stool on the kitchen floor as he watched his litta stir a pot- too short to see the contents, but the smell was enough for Jesse to know it was chili. She’d scolded him, but that was done with, and Jesse’s mind was already trained on the prospect of dinner. He’d brag to his friends at school the next day over leftovers from the meal.

      The recipe for their apple pie came from his fathers side, litta always told him. Jesse soaked the knowledge up, like he always did when his grandmother told him of his parents. When he was young, he simply just wanted to know more about those he could not remember himself. Nowadays, Jesse appreciated that his litta would bring a tradition into her house that was not hers, but did so for her grandson.

     Jesse towered over his litta now, but had not quite grown into his stature, gangly and all limb, and he had to lean down kiss her cheek as she held out a plate for him- Jesse simply ignored the plate altogether, picking up the gordita and stuffing it in his face as he moved towards the front door. “Be good” she had said, and he responded with a nod. “And be back for dinner” came next, an order. Jesse huffed a reply, waved and headed out the door. He was not back until late that night.

There had been plenty of volunteers to carry out Jack's medical exam, all obviously invested in the stories that followed Strike Commander Jack Morrison. Angela didn't think that the man would particularly appreciate her letting someone else cover it for that reason, seeing as he'd reintroduced himself with a humbleness that didn't seem to fit the impression everyone else seemed to have of him. Less importantly, since taking her position in Overwatch, Angela had always conducted his exams in the first place; her expertise in biology had helped in working out how the military's enhancements had affected Jack and Gabriel, charting out a new equilibrium for the two of them. It was this intimacy with their genetics that had probably caused Angela's overconfidence with Gabriel, desperation lulling her into a false sense of security in those terrible, unforgettable hours. Although she often did her best to push such thoughts to the back of her mind, it was harder when she was in her own lab--the place where she'd always seen Gabriel, alive and far less murderous. 

In an attempt to forget those thoughts, she'd pulled out Jack's records to remind herself of the important details, taking in every number that she'd ever recorded. Although Angela had pulled out Gabriel’s records on the long nights where guilt was a stronger motivation than sleep, she hadn't managed to do the same with Jack's. Neither of them had ever been moved to the cabinet of deceased members and she supposed she was grateful that no one had ever asked why. Even as she scrutinised every note she'd ever made about Jack, Angela knew it wasn't for his benefit. There had to be an answer somewhere to how she'd failed so badly with Gabriel--starting with the man whose biology had been similarly altered didn't seem like a bad place to start. She wasn't naive enough to think that the answer would come in this session, but the determination to correct her mistakes was a compelling force. Realising she'd strayed off point again left the doctor frustrated, running a hand through her hair as she closed Jack's folder again.

Luckily, Jack turned up on time, forcing Angela to get up and actually do something. That somewhat surprised her, considering that Jack had never been known for turning up to appointments on time. The fact that Winston valued science and integrity as much as Angela was a small blessing, able to make examinations compulsory--which she was sure was the only reason Jack had turned up in the first place. She wasn't a stranger to hunting the man down usually, somewhat at a loss now he was there and waiting. "Well this is a surprise," Angela greeted the man, smiling warmly regardless. "Have I really lived to see the day when Morrison turns up to an appointment?"

Returning to Overwatch had certainly been an event--one which Angela was still trying to adapt to. Part of her reasoning for joining Overwatch in the first place had been the variety of vast resources available to her. While Angela had managed to make advancements in nanobiology by her own accord, she wasn't naive enough to think that she'd continue it without the input of other researchers. It had been hard to return back to a base of operations without manpower, but she'd been given enough researchers to make a start. She poured her time into trying to recover the work that had been lost over time, finding that keeping her head down and busied was an adequate distraction from the ethical dilemmas that hadn't managed to catch up with her yet.

Or at least they hadn't--not until an excited hum had echoed throughout the base. While Angela didn't consider herself completely oblivious, it did take time for information to trickle into the lab unless she was actively bending Winston's ear for it. Although there had definitely been exciting moments in their revival, the sense of urgency and duty had overshadowed anything that could have creeped into far more emotional territory. The feeling now was different, translated into loose lips trading whispers of accomplishments. What they were wasn't particularly appealing to Angela, having learn the hard way to remain impartial to such business. It wasn't until the murmurs turned into 'Morrison' that Angela paid attention, mouth dry from the connotations. While hearing his name dragged out as an example of Overwatch's better or worse past, depending on the argument, wasn't unusual, it wasn't normal to hear it used so frequently either. Eventually the foreboding niggling was too much to bear, grabbing the first researcher she noticed and demanding an explanation. Morrison is back, wasn't the reply she was expecting but it wasn't outside the realm of possibility either. 

Angela didn't waste a second longer in the lab, trying to think of where where he'd be and the fastest way to get there. Passing through the canteen was instinctive, having spent too many nights debating with Jack over reminiscing for his family's farm. Sure enough he was there, although he looked somewhat awkward and out of place after being gone for so long. There was a brief moment where she forgot she didn't have her suit on, almost tripping over her own feet to reach him. The fact his golden locks had turned to grey didn't make him any less recognisable to her, still standing as tall as she remembered. The more subtle changes to his appearance and stature weren't obvious to her yet, too concerned with wrapping her arms around him and reveling in the fact he was warm--alive. "Jack!" She greeted him, incredulous but overjoyed all the same.
