hi!!! how old were you when you knew/realized you're nonbinary? or was it always just a Thing you Knew?
hello!! i guess i figured it out when i was 16, when i started becoming friends with trans+nb people, and started openly identifying that way when i was 17! i learned about nonbinary stuff when i was ~15, but unfortunately the group of people i followed on tumblr cast it in a negative “”””special snowflake””” light, which i unfortunately followed suit with for a while. but then after drifting fandoms and actually meeting other folks, and realizing that ~~this is actually a thing and it is ok~~ i was like OH HOLY HECK THATS ME!!!!
and like, looking back, i likely would have started identifying as nb/trans a long time ago if i had known about it in a positive way?? which is why i feel like it’s so important to teach people about this stuff, especially younger kids, because i spent so long in that “girls suck, Im Not Like Other Girls, pink is a terrible colour, i hate dresses” etc, trying to aggressively distance myself from the concept of femininity, because like???? i knew i wasnt “a girl” but i wasnt “a boy” either, but as far as i knew there was no other option?? so there was just a lot of confusion and anger yknow? i’ve finally gotten to a place where i’m comfortable presenting in a more femme manner at times, which im really glad for because i enjoy it!!!
tl;dr because omg this got rambly,,: i guess i always knew i was nb but it was a long time before i learned what nb actually was and that it wasnt bad to identify that way! (thank u for the question!!)
