Artist, Nicandra Galper, created “No Bad Birds” for the Museum”/ current art show “Expanding Voices: Perspectives on Birding.” The artist writes in her artist statement, “I have created this artwork as an homage to the seemingly boring brown birds everywhere. They are all beautiful to me. I see them in my yard, in town, and in the woods behind my home. They have a place, a song, and a purpose in the world. This year [2020] has made me examine judgements and biases in all areas of my life and I have been more driven to express that in the face of all the injustice and inequality in the world. The birding world feels less precious and so much more inclusive to be now than it ever has before. It doesn’t matter how many birds you’ve seen this year or which ones, or whether you know their names. The year comes to a close, We asked a few people their thoughts on 2020. Perhaps some of their answers echo with yours. 

Vivek Pandey, 32 years, project manager, Bengaluru  

Q. What have you experienced this year?

This year has given me an eye-opening experience and also taught me some important life lessons:

1. Whatever happens in life happens for the best. One should always stay positive.

2. Our mind is our best friend as well as our deadliest enemy. If we understand how to manage it, life would be joyful.

Q. How has 2020 challenged or changed you?

It has challenged me, and taking up this challenge has been life changing. This year has taught me how to handle personal situations in a better manner.

We have come across much disturbing news this year - many people lost their lives and many others were affected by the pandemic. The whole world came to a standstill.

Now, I don’t plan and think too much. My new life mantra is to think positive and stay positive. Even if we test positive! For me, meditation has played a big role in achieving all this.
