We are again in complete awe of the talent and creativity of the artists and poets in our community! We review every one of the nearly 200 works that were submitted. Four jurists —with widely different tastes & backgrounds— have so far selected the top 40 or so pieces, and two other jurists have contributed their input. We’re looking specifically for how a piece communicates the Spark! idea, visually and/or in words— and we always wish we had room for them all! We are now wandering around the museum with colorful printouts and poems, looking at empty wall space and asking ourselves, “do these pieces work together? How about displaying them here? Or here? Today would have been Bob Spear’s birthday. For those who never got to meet him, he was the person who carved about 95% of all the birds at the Birds of Vermont Museum. In addition to carving, he helped build the place, and maintained the grounds. In his spare time he spent time birding with friends and family. He always took time to share his love for birds and nature with everyone.
