Happy new year! May your 2020 be as wonderful as you! One word prompt: refuse
Hiii, sorry this took a while I did the first one and then had an extended sand brain period. Hope you enjoy! Went kinda for the refusing medical treatment/rest.
Their friend was finally asleep. The caretaker stepped back, careful not to jostle their friend’s battered body as they got up from the bed. They drew the curtains before exiting the room.
They needed to check on the team leader, as well as the guard dogs that had been injured in the initial attack. The sloppily bandaged gash on their side tugged a little farther open as they stretched and they winced. They could deal with that after they checked on everyone, it wasn’t too bad.
“I’m fine, and so is everyone else. You aren’t the only doctor here, Caretaker. You can relax and take care of yourself.”
The team leader had his hand on their arm. His pupils were still uneven from the hit he’d taken.
“I guess you’re stable.” They sat back, still not satisfied they’d done enough. “Are you sure you don’t need anything?”
He gave them a gentle shove and they sighed, standing and taking one last look at him before they left. They could still look at the dogs, maybe then they would feel like they were done for the day.
Three injured dogs later they still didn’t feel satisfied. The dogs were all fine, they had checked back in on their still sleeping friend after the first two. Why were they still up? They were definitely tired. They could just give themself the stitches they needed and go to bed.
Or they could sit around in the medical center and watch the monitors showing the vitals of the leader and their friend.
They opened their eyes. They must’ve fallen asleep on the desk. Someone’s file was stuck to their face and they peeled it off. One of the other doctors was standing over them.
“Were you here all night?”
“That wasn’t what I was intending to do, but I guess that’s what happened.” They shoved the chair back, shaking their head to try and get rid of the lightheadedness. “Is anyone checking on Leader? I should do that.”
They started to get up, leaning on the desk as their head spun more.
“No, he’s fine, someone else did already. Are you ok? You look dizzy.”
They straightened up, and static filled their head before the world went dark.
