ashamed of all my somethings | tense angst
While having a smoke outside his childhood home (now his sister's house) on Christmas Day, Art crosses paths with Reg for the first time in 21 years. setting: outside Laura's house in Basildon, Essex, 25th December 2006 characters involved: Art and Reg (also Laura [Art's sister] & baby Gwen [Art's niece]). warnings: SA (heavily) implied, (heavily) implied trauma recollection.
yes, i got class | reggie (+ art)'s flat, circa 1984 (rough plan)
This is a rough plan of what Reg and Art's flat looks like (when Art lived with him). As it's an end flat on the second floor (third level), the only access is via either the stairwell (which leads down directly into the carpark) or the lift and following the balcony to get at the front door. Through the front door, you're met with the only hallway in the lot, to your left is the bedroom and further up on the right is the bathroom. In between is a side table and a phone console table. At the end of the hallway you come to the biggest room in the flat, which is meant to be evenly split into a living/dining area but Reg has a tiny dining table and uses the rest of the space as his living room and for his drum kit. The living area is closer to the kitchen because that was the only place he can connect the TV to the aerial signal line and that's where the electric fireplace is. The narrower kitchen is accessed via a sliding door that Reg just keeps open so it's effectively an archway. In the far end of the living/dining area (near the drum kit) is a fair-sized storage cupboard and most of the bathroom is taken up by the bath/shower combo and the airing cupboard. The only thing that's obviously Art's in this particular plan is the tiny dash by the armchair in the bedroom that represents his guitar.

keeping the tea hot while you're taking the piss... | reg mcnulty + lights
Jaws by Lights is the perfect song for Reg in my mind because it shows both sides of him: the 'bitchy' persona he keeps up in private as a sort of defence mechanism, and the perfect (bubblegum/synth) pop persona he shows the world (as a form of "getting back" at Odd Foxes). Yes, the song has "she" pronouns but given how slang was within the (UK) LGBTQIA+ community back in the day, the idea of 'she got claws, fuck it she got jaws' is the perfect allegory for Reggie's overall bitchiness. It also perfectly captures his feigned 'unbotheredness' -- i.e.: how he pretends to be completely fine with Odd Foxes' success without him being part of it when he's actually quite excruciatingly - and unsubtly - jealous.
REGGIE MCNULTY | odd foxes verse
dematerialisation (+ ex odd foxes) drummer • bitter bitch abhorrent perfectionist • has a good side... very, very deep down fashionable + charming diva • homosexual + homoromantic antagonist | face claim: vince clarke | one-shots | playlists | reg's general tag

what I usually listen to when writing about Art & Reggie cuz I like the vibes (and in my head, the songs suit them as a pairing in certain situations). ~ link in the title-!
