More on Alcatraz ⬇️⬇️ Alcatraz Island has a long and rich history that goes much further back than the famous prison that housed Al Capone. The Island housed the first Lighthouse on the west coast. The prison originally was a built as military fortress and ended up housing civil war prisoners. After becoming no longer useful to the U.S. Army, the government set up a federal prison that housed many famous and notorious inmates. After the prison was closed, the island became barren and a Native American Indian occupation held “the rock” from 1969-1971 to protest their civil rights. Alcatraz Island is a 25-acre island located 1 ¼ mile from San Francisco. The Island was designated in1933 by the Federal Bureau of Prisons to be a maximum security prison, called Alcatraz. Alcatraz was an infamous prison that housed notorious and dangerous criminals such as Al Capone, George “Machine Gun” Kelly, and Robert Franklin Stroud, better know as the “Birdman of Alcatraz.” #DiscoverU21 #Alcatraz #AlcatrazIsland #ReggieDupard #WeAreFFL #Leadership #Empowerment #FFLSF2021 #PriceFamily #DCOL #SFBucketList #SanFrancisco #SFKids #igSF #Community #2021VisionTour #AfterSchoolWorks #AlcatrazSF #CURYJ #UCBerkeley #RedwordForest #MuirWoods (at Alcatraz Federal Prison) https://www.instagram.com/p/CR_8quGrxL7/?utm_medium=tumblr
