Sirius Black!
Why I Like Them:
Sirius was one of my favourite characters for a long time. (Then I met his brother.) I just… he’s a good bad boy, I guess, which is a lot of his appeal. I have also always been a sucker for falsely accused characters. Sooo much, you have no idea.
And Sirius is the cool adult. Right? Like, he’s helpful in a crisis and he makes you feel better, but he also lets you do things, and he gets you, and it’s great. And when I first met him I was, what, ten? So that was really appealing, and I still love him for it.
Sirius was told his whole life that he was better than ‘them’ and that ‘they’ were horrible and stupid and dangerous, and he still managed to learn better and to reject that kind of poisonous attitude, and I think anyone who manages to do that while not only a teenager, but a preteen and early teenager deserves so much respect.
Why I Don’t Like Them:
Well, he was an ass when he was a teenager. And he’s still carrying… privilege, I guess, from his upbringing – it mostly shows up in the way he treats Kreacher. Which is not good. Also he’s a tad bit headstrong. Yeah.
Favourite Episode Chapter:
This is a bit unfair to Sirius, but I love the bit where he’s showing Harry the Black family tree… erm… mostly because it’s our introduction to Regulus. *shameface* I do also love learning more about Sirius, though, and I enjoy the angst in that scene.
Favourite Line:
“If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.”
Take that, Barty Crouch!
Look, I know Sirius doesn’t treat his own house elf very well, but I do find that while Sirius has still got a bit of a chip on his shoulder re: privilege, he’s a lot more aware of his privilege than most non-Muggle-born wizards. Compare Ron, who’s also a decent person with problematic ideas, but hasn’t had Sirius’s life experience.
Favourite Outfit:
Dress robes. Or ordinary robes, as long as they’re, you know, not horribly tattered. So basically Grimmauld Place clothes.
OTP:
I don’t really have one, so much. I don’t know if I headcanon Sirius as aromantic or just a bi/heteroromantic who just doesn’t feel like having relationships, but… I guess I feel like, if he was going to get together with someone, it should probably be several years after the war, for the sake of everyone involved. And he died in the war, so yeah.
Brotp:
Sirius-Lupin. I was a fan of Sirius-Harry, but then I sort of… stopped liking Harry.
Head Canon:
I like to think he had a good relationship with his brother for a while and they both hated being wrenched apart by their ideology (although they blamed each other) and Regulus’s death bothers Sirius more than he lets on.
I like to think he would have been proud if he’d only known.
Unpopular Opinion:
Not shipping Sirius/Lupin, I guess?
An Oh-God-Please-Don’t-Ever-Happen:
Can we never get Word of God about Sirius having one particular school sweetheart or whatever? Please? Sirius is kind of like Legolas now – it’s not that it’s impossible to develop someone as their romantic partner, it’s just been done so badly and so many times that’s it’s better to just leave them both single. Don’t go messing around with that kind of character. They breed Mary-Sues.
5 Words To Best Describe Them:
-hot-headed
-headstrong
-rebellious
-moral
-loyal
My Nickname For Them:
Look, I just don’t really nickname people, okay?
Can I ride your broomstick? ;)
I don't let anyone ride my broomstick except for myself, sorry. It was a gift from my mother.
