Cody watched the range of expression on Rei Ayanami's face as her scarlet eyes scanned the gentle loops and lines of his writing on the paper she held in her hands. His heart thudded against his ribs, but as a blush painted her cheeks, he couldn't help the smile that tugged at his lips. "Thank you, Cody," she said softly. "I will always treasure this." He reached out to grasp her hand and squeezed lightly. Christina, who was hiding in the closet to write this, wiped away happy tears.

Duel! Shinji vs. Cody!

This is just a little experimental fic. I got the idea from my friend Camille.

Shinji's heart was beating in his chest. He was walking down the halls of central dogma, with a letter in his hand. 

"I... I just have to give it to her. That's all." 

Suddenly, he saw her- Ayanami Rei. She was about to go to the female lockerroom when Shinji cried out. She turned, and examined him. He thrust the letter into her hands, quickly turned around, and walked away.

 "I am sorry."

"But, why not, Ayanami?"

"There is another, Ikari-kun."

"Anothe-" Shinji started, but he knew who it was.

He stomped off angrily, but he heard Rei say something behind him. He turned again to her.

"What was that?"

"Do not hurt him, Ikari-kun."

Shinji continued on his path, ignoring her plea.

Cody dropped to the floor. He hadn't seen the attack coming at all.

"What the hell- Shinji?"

Cody got himself up, but Shinji was still steaming.

"How dare you take Ayanami from me!" he said, throwing another punch. Cody dodged and pushed Shinji outstretched arm away from him. Shinji used his other hand and Cody took it in the stomach. Hurting from the punch, but not as much as he might have thought, Cody used both of his hands to grab Shinji by the shoulders and force him to the ground. He got up, leaving Shinji on the ground. 

"Give Ayanami ba-" Shinji said, rising for another punch.

"IKARI-KUN!" a voice rang out.

Both boys' eyes widened in shock at the loudest words Rei had ever uttered. They turned to see her standing there, panting from running.

"Ikari-kun, I told you not to hurt him."

"Rei..." Shinji began.

"I'm fine, Rei. Really. Now what is this all about?"

"Ikari-kun gave me a letter of confession. I told him that there was another. You."

 "But, Rei, I-"

Rei walked over and planted a slap firmly on Shinji's cheek.

"I am sorry, but I have made my decision."

Cody took her hand in his, and they walked down the hallway. They didn't notice Shinji break down into sobs on the floor of the facility.

Woah... that was kind of dark. I wish I knew another way to write this...
