She may be a rogue but at heart she's a fighter and it's that powerful will of hers that makes her so dangerous. "A paid serial killer then," he corrects himself. It's not meant to be a complete dig at her -- there's an underlying, faint hint of playfulness in his voice. "How long have you been a mercenary? You are quite skilled."

While Nashira could very well STILL DO WITHOUT his "serial killer" comment , it wasn't like what he said was entirely wrong either ; it wasn't like she's any different than those stalking the streets in search for prey in the dark. After all , her body count says just as much. "It's almost been about ... TEN YEARS." Her eyes widened with surprise — surprise that she had made it this far without facing death yet.

Malerakas allows himself to be pulled down, leaning into and returning the embrace tightly. He loves that he gets to wake with Alden each morning. Today, he'd been unable to resist waking the other; he'd looked so beautiful, and all he'd wanted to do was kiss him there and then. Pulling his head back, he nudges their noses together and steals another, kiss - properly this time.

"Good morning, heart."

Okay...so that did not go as planned at all.

While she supposed she couldn't simply get everyone to talk just by striking up conversation--which she should have known better going into this because she would have reacted the same if anyone pushed her before SHE was ready--but this had been a massive strike-out. They were giving her the cold shoulder and she couldn't help but smile awkwardly and then hold out a bowl of stew.

"A peace offering," she started, taking a seat next to him and giving a nod, "because clearly I hit a nerve and it wasn't my intention...I was just trying to find something we had in common so I could talk to you."

Lesson learned...she should have stuck with magic conversation starters only.

blinking, everything moves slowly, as though they've both been submerged underwater. ridiculously, fable feels the unhinged urge to laugh despite it being quite literally the worst possible time to do so. she stares, unseeing, at the body of ilastor's lackey –– he'd melted out of the shadows with a very clear intent written across the blade of his massive great-axe. fable had known ilastor would likely be after her, but it was another thing to see it. to know that the memories in her head were just that: memories. that the horrors endured were real was an altogether different thing to contend with than to simply assume they were.

again, that urge to laugh. imagine that, the protector in need of protecting. suddenly that giggle in her throat felt far closer to a sob, or a scream. ❝ th-thank you, alden... I-I appreciate that. ❞ she forces a smile to her lips. they'd jumped in just in time to save her head from leaving her shoulders. they'd saved her. ❝ I guess I owe my life. ❞

It had been their turn to keep watch. The night, thankfully had been more or less uneventful with the exception of the occasionally wild animal he had to scare off. That is... Until Mal had a nightmare. The two are still getting to know each other, learning to trust and confide in one another. He doesn't know every little details about Mal's past and neither does Mal know every little detail about his past. Still, he recognizes a nightmare when he sees one. He doesn't forcefully wake Mal from the nightmare. Instead, they wait until Mal wakes himself from the nightmare before going to kneel before him, checking on him. A gentle hand comes to rest on Mal's shoulder as Alden replies, "As dramatic and fun disappearing into the night sounds, I wouldn't do that to you," he assures Mal in a soft voice. "Do you want to talk about it?"

The nightmares are fewer these days; but no less potent. If anything, they're sometimes more potent. Tonight's was more potent, and when he comes round, his hand reflexively goes to his side, then to his head. No blood, no horns. No horns, but there's a phantom pain that takes him a moment to overcome before he registers the hand on his shoulder. "I-- uh. " It wouldn't be fair if he didn't talk, would it? Malerakas looks up at Alden, studying him for a moment as a hand comes to rest over their hand. "It's a lot. Are you sure? "

Where would he begin? The ship? The pirates? The chopping room? He doesn't like thinking about any of it, but he trusts Alden; and is getting to know him. He owes it to the other to be honest.

{ ♪ } -- Knowing the meaning behind the gentle touch prompted her to give a little reassuring smile. A hand gently rested over theirs and she tilted her head to one side.

"It's alright! The current situation is, admittedly, a little perilous... But we'll get through it! No problem, I promise."

With that, she gave his fingers a gentle squeeze. There would be no use in panicking over what they couldn't control. The best thing to do in a situation like this was to move one step at a time and work things out as they could.

"We'll figure it out. I know we will."

You laugh, it was a small one, like a huff than a laugh, then you shake your head at the other before crossing your arms: "And?" You replied back, your eyebrows raised. "What are you going to do about it? C'mon, use your words, I'll like to hear what you have to say about it."

There’s some dour kind of humor in it, weighted with a certain gravity; he lingers there for a moment before those brilliantly blue eyes lift to take the other in. " Well, " he says, with a thin little smile, " I’m no leader. So I hope you’re the one volunteering. " A pause, then — and, more probing: " So what do you think is the right thing, here? "
