Let’s talk about Gethsemane.
This song has a chokehold on almost everyone in the sleep token community, and for good reason.
The song begins very light airy, and soft. Almost reminiscent of the past. The beginning gives us very sad pain and shows us how obsessed vessel was with this person/deity(sleep maybe). It is a reflection on the relationship.
When the heavier instruments come in, the song gets more intense. There is an underlying hint of anger, and regret that vessel even let himself get into that situation. Vessel is upset that he let himself get hurt. This part is about how the relationship sounded like a dream but in hindsight it was toxic and destructive. How he walked into the relationship like a dream and absolutely love struck, then he was put down like a used cigarette
Then during the end of song there is so much anger and pain. Like vessel is yelling and calling the songs victim out. Calling them out for all the pain they put him through. Vessel is telling us how much pain he received from them. It sounds like he is confronting someone. The tense he uses is direct. He is using the word ‘you’. He is biting back in anger. It is similar to the last couple screamo lines in infinite baths. Vessel is fighting back and standing up for himself.
