Shattered Pieces

(a poem about the wreckage left behind)

We built this love like stained glass— fragile, bright, and holy. Each pane painted in promises we never meant to break.

But even cathedrals crumble.

And now, I walk through ruins, barefoot over jagged memories. Every step bleeds a little truth— love isn't always enough.

I gather the shards not to rebuild but to remember what once caught the light.

There’s beauty in the broken when you learn not to bleed for it.

Packing up half of your life, well not your life I guess but half of what was supposed to be your future, into a few boxes to drop off at the next custody exchange feels like when someone else if giving you CPR and cracks your ribs in the process. It’s necessary for life to keep going after a traumatic event but will still cause damage while it’s happening.

I think the worst thing about a break up for me is that you allow yourself to give your all to a person. they learn every detail of you, the parts you deem ugly, the corners of your mind that you haven’t shared with another soul. you trust, they promise they won’t leave. but they do, taking that trust, leaving you feel unlovable. because you showed a person your all, you trust.

and they break that.
