Why Being In A Long-Distance Relationship Can Be Good

From closed borders to curfews there are now increasingly more barriers stopping couples from cupcaking in public. And guess what? We miss it. Here’s the interesting part: It’s not all bad. Believe it or not long-distance relationships surprisingly have their perks. Keep reading or click the video below to see why.

1. You Learn How To Argue With Your Partner

Before everyone jumps on me telling me that they HATE arguing with their partner and “why would I ever want to fight with them?”, learning to communicate effectively and clearly is one of the most important things you can do for your relationship.

Being long-distance forces both of you to focus all communication into just video and audio – which can be scary but also quite eye-opening. There’s no more relying on body language or outside distractions. It’s just you, your phone, and your partner. Critical communication (which sounds better than ‘arguing’) can only be done if both parties are open to hearing their partner speak and willing to exercise patience.

These conversations need to be had, and having them directly without any physical distractions can help the relationship become more direct and honest. This is one of the main reasons why some couples are grateful for their time being long-distance.

2. You Bond & Learn About Each Other In A Unique Way

Since the only mode of communication being long-distance allows for is audio and video, you get to talk to your partner… a lot. Surprisingly, you might even talk to your partner way more than you would if you weren’t long-distance because, let’s face it, do you really do much talking while you’re together?

In all seriousness, while together, most couples do stuff – like going to the movies, eating out, and attending social gatherings. During these types of outings, there really isn’t much time for deep heart-to-hearts. In an LDR, you have nothing but time. You start to ask your partner the really deep questions; what’s your worst fear? Who hurt you the worst? What’s your greatest dream? What will you do if it doesn’t happen? Who would you be if you didn’t have to have a career?

These questions can help strengthen the relationship in surprising and subliminal ways and can help you learn a lot about yourself as well.

3. When You Do See Each Other, It’s Super Special

Regardless of how far you are from your partner, it’s safe to say that you probably get a little giddy each time you think about seeing them again. Whether it’s months in between or those long work hours, being excited to see your significant other is a sign of a healthy relationship. In an LDR, this feeling is compounded. Most likely, it’s been months (or more) since you’ve seen each other, and you are l i t e r a l l y dying just to be able to hold their hand.
