Poorly drawn Relicanth

We went to the Natural History Museum in London last weekend, mostly to see the Pokemon Pop-Up Shop, but we did go coelacanth hunting.

Unfortunately, we couldn't seem to find the actual coelacanth we know exists somewhere in there (it moved from where we last saw it and where they said it was), but we did see:

A Relicanth in the Aquatic Pokémon poster, looking like if Brock's Dad was a Pokémon.

Coelacanth, Macropoma lewesiensis by Peter L. Forey.

The description said: "This is a reconstruction of the seas of southern England 80 million years ago by palaeontologist and artist Peter Forey. The fish belong to a now-extinct species of coelacanth that flourished in our waters at that time."

This "must be a coelacanth, surely" carving on the wall in the main Museum gift shop.

One day, I will go back and find our precious coelacanth. ONE DAY.
