“Remember remember the 5th of November Gunpowder, treason and plot. I see no reason Why gunpowder treason Should ever be forgot” Today in England is Bonfire Night. Or Guy Fawkes Night. Or Firework Night. I guess it goes by many names. But it is an age old tradition where the public go out in droves to let off fireworks and have huge bonfires and set alight to “scarecrow” versions of a man to celebrate the death of Guy Fawkes who was caught trying to blow up the Houses of Parliament (British Central Government Buildings) by placing barrels of his powder underneath the buildings. I’ve always thought it was funny that was celebrated setting a man on fire until he was dead.. as a message to stop anyone from thinking about doing the same. And we celebrate that same message every year. It’s an odd one.
