[First, an aside: to all my non-Wildstar followers, feel free to block #wildstar or #remembering ws. Probably gonna be some nostalgic reminiscing on this blog for a while.]
We all kinda figured this day was coming, I guess. I only learned it today after popping on my phone during break and seeing all these odd memorials going up, for the game, for people’s characters, for housing plots. It hit home pretty quick. How heartbreaking.
While Wildstar was not my first MMO, nor even my first MMO where I created characters with the intent of RPing them, it would, ultimately, become the first game where I did so--my first time RPing anywhere outside of a forum, in fact. In a matter of weeks after that, I made more online friends and acquaintances than I had in almost a decade of internet socializing. Wildstar would hold a special place in my heart for that reason alone. Even though my RP career was relatively short-lived compared to others in this game, I still found myself logging in every couple of weeks just to spaz around or revisit my favorite housing plots. To this day it has what I consider to be the greatest housing system of any game ever, and the most intense, actually-fun-to-play combat out of all MMOs. There really will be nothing like it.
As most everyone else is doing, I’m most likely gonna start taking a few trips down memory lane over the next few days. To everyone I’ve met in this game, from friends to guildies to blogs I’ve only cowardly followed here from afar: I’m so glad I got to have you in my life. With any luck though, this isn’t the end. Many of my Wildstar characters have now been translated to other games, namely Guild Wars 2 and Elder Scrolls Online, and I hope I get to find some of you there. <3
