@AmericanHistoricalTheatre and the @USNatArchives will present a debate between Abigail Adams and me today, Wednesday 3 July, at noon. If you cannot be in the room where it happens, the National Archives has provided a means by which you can watch from the same device by which you are reading this (link provided in my profile bio. It will remain available on the National Archives’ Youtube page until the end of the year) . . Kim Hanley is Abigail Adams. She made the clothing worn by both of us in this portrait, and she is the Executive Director of American Historical Theatre . . This portrait was rendered by @kylecassidy . . . #AHTheatre #YourThomasJefferson #ThomasJefferson #AbigailAdams #RememberTheLadies #CreatedEqual #debate #reenactor #firstperson #foundingmother #foundingfather (at National Archives Building) https://www.instagram.com/p/BzdHHCoDpYn/?igshid=3hwg1zzc0122
My poster for the #womensmarchnyc! Nervous but excited to #riseup tomorrow! #womensmarch #remembertheladies
A moment from my @americanhistoricaltheatre debate with Abigail Adams (Kim Hanley) at the @usnatarchives in Washington DC, Mrs. Adams shares her belief that women should be determined to foment a rebellion . . . The letter that Mrs. Adams is referencing here is her 31 March 1776 missive to Mr. Adams . . The clothing worn by both Mrs. Adams and myself was crafted by the talented hand of Kim Hanley, Executive Director of American Historical Theatre . . . #AbigailAdams #ThomasJefferson #AHTheatre #remembertheladies #foundingmothers #NARA #americanhistory #equality #equalpay #womensrights #equalrepresentation #archives https://www.instagram.com/p/B4Xw4YDjJUq/?igshid=1ua6rgmit3epz
Abigail Adams (Kim Hanley) shares a quote from a letter that she wrote to her husband on 31 March 1776 regarding the rights of women . . . In addition to having studied and portrayed Abigail Adams for 21 years, Kim Hanley is also the Executive Director of @AmericanHistoricalTheatre . . . *A note from Steve Edenbo: I apologize for this video not having been filmed in landscape format. We’ll remedy that in future appearances by Mrs. Adams . . . #AbigailAdams #RememberTheLadies #AHTheatre #AmericanHistoricalTheatre #KimHanley #foundingmothers #reenactor #americanhistory https://www.instagram.com/p/B14orpqj4wq/?igshid=1285f1qp0atbs
Woman Herstory Month!
Welcome Back everyone, and to you ladies in specific, I hope that you are all having a fantastic month since it is our month. You see a while ago when my husband was away in Washington, I sent him a letter saying that "I desire you would Remember the Ladies, and be more generous and favourable to them than your ancestors. Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the Husbands. Remember all Men would be tyrants if they could. If perticuliar care and attention is not paid to the Laidies we are determined to foment a Rebelion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any Laws in which we have no voice, or Representation"( Massachusetts Historical Society). Which now from the looks of things my husband did not Remember the Ladies. Therefore, it is now our time for a rebellion. You see when I was a young girl I was unable to speak out for myself or join group and meetings that gave the support and guidance us woman needed. Now my daughter goes to the Women's March and starts chants to get her voice heard. Clearly, men are the "tyrants," and I think it is time for us ladies to not remind the men that they must remember us, but they will remember us because of the change we are bringing.
Now I do love my husband very much and let that not confuse anyone because I will always have my husbands back, but I feel that men still feel the superior sex when in fact they are not. Take my home, for example, John is never here which therefore makes me in charge and if you ask anyone around the house things are going great. Ladies, we will go farther in life if we have alliances so let's not start a war like these idiots. We are going to promote a change for equality and change in this world because we really do need one.
