Does a Saga still trigger “after your draw step” if you don’t have a draw step? (E.g. Psychic Possession)

This is a friendly periodic reminder that reminder text isn’t rules text. In the case of Sagas, I bring this up in order to point out that “after your draw step” is a lot shorter to write out than “at the beginning of your precombat main phase” and so it was used to save space on the cards.

Sagas get lore counters at the beginning of your precombat main phase, not in your draw step, so they have no interaction with cards that cause you to skip your draw step. (And they do have interaction with cards that cause you to skip your precombat main phase.)

So, a lot to see here in these two Battlebond previews that Wizards was nice enough to give us today, but what I want to talk about is something most of us skip over completely: Reminder Text.

It looks like Wizards is going all out to save space in text boxes; “he or she” becoming “they” (while also being gender neutral), removing references to the mana pool, etc. “into their hand from their library” is much shorter than “searches their library for a card named [card] and put it into their hand.” Given the number of cards that search for things, this does open up literal space on the card to fit additional words.

As a writer, I’ve always felt that it’s my job to be as concise as possible while not losing any meaning. As such, I approve of this direction in templating.

If I cast Silence in response to an opponent casting a spell, will their spell resolve on the stack or will it fizzle since now they cannot cast spells?

Yes, it will still resolve. Silence isn’t a counterspell.

Hi there, I noticed something with some of the new SOI spoilers recently released. The madness reminder text has been changed since its original iterations (or even the most recent versions outside of SOI)! Do you know why this might be?

Reminder text for returning abilities is often cleaned up or retemplated.

Also, Tabak has confirmed that exiling the card with madness is no longer optional when you discard it, so there is a small functional change to that one small part of how the ability works.

Can cards with extort only be used in W/B commander decks?

No.

Reminder text doesn’t contribute to a card’s color identity.
