It was rare that Remilia and Nikolas would have a night to themselves. Most nights were spent in a tug of war over sheets and blankets in a bed that was not made for the amount of people that were in it. If Nikolas was lucky he'd be able to place a fingertip against Remilia's hot skin as a small child would squirm between them. It was something that was bittersweet for the couple. How could they not love the affection of their children but not miss the mere moments when it was just them in that bed. Although they cherished every night, nights like these were different as if they were a clip of a past time before the time of teddy bears and toys.
Nikolas swirled the brown liquid in his crystal glass before taking a sip; feeling the burn trickle down his throat. He rarely drank but he had a soft spot for the crystal bottle of scotch that his father had always kept hidden in the kitchen. When the house was left to him he hid the bottle in an old servant quarter bedroom that had become vacant. It was hidden away in a place that was safe and sound.
A slight movement across the room broke his concentration on the seared log that crackled in the fireplace. A shadow danced across the room; caught between the light of a thousand tiny flames and a wall of fire. It was the shadow of a woman walking gently across the room toward an untouched bed. The light reflected of the satin of her nightgown that clung desperately to her skin in an attempt to hug her every curve. A mess of golden waves tumbled over her shoulders and down her back so carelessly yet so perfect. The woman was something like an angel on the outside with her perfectness but beneath that heavenly glow she had venom in her veins but neither the venom nor the glow was completely true. She wasn't pure but she wasn't tainted either. She was so much more complex than that.
"Gorgeous," A faint whisper spilled out on alcohol tainted breath.
Remilia didn't look at him, she just took a curl that fell against her cheek and gently tucked it away behind her ear as she gazed into the flames of the fireplace. Her eyes that once held the color of the sea now glowed golden in the light. She ran her fingers ever so gently across the expensive satin sheets.
Nik gazed longingly at his wife in that nightgown, in this light, and with that look on her face. He didn't know if he wanted to touch her or just watch her from afar. From where he sat he could see just how dangerous the dress really was. If those tiny straps were to snap or the hem of that dress would ride up ever so slightly, there would be nothing left of the imagination which Nik would never object to.
Remilia stepped towards Nik; her bare feet ever so carefully falling against the cool stone floor.
The glass in Nik's hand slid across the mahogany table next to him as he rose from his chair. Nik reached out and took Remilia's hand in his. "You are my eternity." He ever so gently ran his thumb over the shining diamond on Remilia's ring finger.
With such elegance, Remilia ran her hand over the thin fabric that covered Nik's chest until her dangerous fingers met the hot skin of his neck. "You are my infinity." The words fell from her soft lips in a whisper as her eyes glowed through her long eyelashes.
In Nik's eyes there wasn't a person in the world more beautiful or perfect as his wife. There was nothing he wouldn't do to protect and love her until his last breath. He loved the sadness she held in her eyes and power of her fingertips. He loved every piece of her battered and broken soul without question or concern. Nikolas would burn the world to the ground just to see her smile.
Nik ran his hand over the smooth satin of her nightgown until it found the bare skin of her thigh. The buttons of his shirt began to gently pull apart as she inched closer to him so that their bodies were pressed together. "You're beautiful." He breathed as he bowed his head to kiss the bare skin of her shoulder.
Remilia pulled her hand from his and entangled it into his soft black hair. "I miss this." She whispered into his ear ever so softly.
"So do I." Nik smiled into her shoulder as his hand pulled the hem of her nightgown down. "But we have to work in the morning. I have tests to grade before lunch."
Remilia rolled her eyes. "You forgot didn't you?"
Nik smiled awkwardly. "That's why I'm drinking."
