Knowing James was stable was one thing. It was harder to feel it. All the same, she took a step away from his bedside after he’d first woken up. Remus and Marlene also needed an update. She’d see what she could do to get them inside the ward, too. The last image they had of him must be a terrible one. It had been enough for Lily to come in and see what he’d looked like, and that had been after some of her colleagues had healed the worst of his bruises. Cleaned up the blood.
For all she knew, Fleamont, Euphemia and Sirius would also be here by now. Lily dreaded facing them all, but at least it wasn’t bad news she had to give. It wasn’t precisely good news either. But he was alive. And so was Dorcas. However terrible a night it had been for them, they were still alive.
The corridors were full, Healers bustling by. She blended in easily enough, in her work robes. No doubt there were many people tonight just as worried and afraid for loves one as she was. The tea room made up entirely of tired, sad faces. Remus’ sandy hair caught her eye, she made her way towards him. “He’s stable,” were the first words out of her mouth, sure that would be what Remus most wanted to hear. Her eyes were dry again now, but her voice wasn’t quite back to its usual strength.
