The thing is, Alexander hates the snow. 

Blame it on his childhood in the Caribbean or just too many bad memories of nearly freezing to death during the war. But the sight of soft snowflakes falling from the sky have just never seemed to excite him.

And certainly not in the way that they excite Eliza or the children.

He watches them from just inside the doorway instead. The excited voices of Angie and Philip as they rush through the piles of snow that had appeared during the night, bring an easy smile to his face. As does the sight of Eliza, her cheeks slightly flush from the cold, grinning like a fool.

“Alexander,” she calls out to him, after catching his eye. “Come join us.”

No matter his disagreements with the weather, he cannot deny her that. Not when she looks as though his presence could warm up the world. Instead he simply tugs his scarf tighter around his neck, before stepping out to join his family. 

“Yes, my love? You required my presence.”

“I wanted you to enjoy yourself.”

He means to point out that he was enjoying himself before. And that he would be enjoying himself even more if he was sitting by a warm fire inside their house. But the words don’t come out, because a second later Eliza’s hand is tugging on his scarf pulling her towards him, to press the softest of kisses to his lips.

Propriety be damned.

When she pulls back there’s a soft and almost silly grin on her face. “Happy Christmas, my love.”
