How I feel about this character

my sexy wife. i wouldn’t not last two minutes in the same room with him without MELTING. not even necessarily from sexiness, just i do not think i could hold a thirty second conversation with him without him relentlessly bullying me. i do not think he would like me. or maybe he would pity me like a v damp cat. ne’ertheless, i adore him. i think i like him how preteen girls like boy bands in that i would chase him down with a sign that says ‘ALUCARD!! I LOVE YOU!!’ in glittery gel pen and despite liking the ego-stroking he’d be like ‘oh my god. get this chick some help.’ i want to sniff him.

edit: alsooo. forgot to mention i always think about the comparisons between him and nikolai lantsov from the grishaverse. like?? privateer, blue eyes, lil bit cocky and vain, actually turn out to be royalty, have a very brief Thing with fmc, introduced in the second book. same person.

romantically? only rhy. so good for each other. my guy was so down bad. that fucking mirror? don’t play with meee.

sexually (and maybe kinda romantically but only pre-adsom)? kell. obvs. i feel like many of us have resigned ourselves to the fact that the kell/alucard hate sex would go crazyyy. i think some kell/alucard and lila/ojka mirroring would’ve gone crazy. same room even. 🤫

i said this on the lila post, i think, too. i would’ve liked to see some more confused/disturbed/angsty feelings after that time he kissed lila in agos. i wish he’d have led her on a bit more, or that they’d have had a one-night stand, if only to serve the purpose of letting me see angry, pathetic kell.

My non-romantic OTP for this character

anisaaa. anisa, my babyyy. you poor, poor thinggg. i cried at almost every death in the entire series but hers was the first that made me feel physically ill lmao. it was just ohhhh my babiesss. they went though the same things, suffered the same people, and even though they loved each other so so much she just wasn’t strong enough through no fault of her own. </3 it was so much worse after hearing more of alucard’s family life in threads too.

i was going to write here about how much i would’ve loved to see anisa as an aunt to ren but i actually don’t think i can do that without wailing so i shan’t.

My unpopular opinion about this character

i don’t think i have one, honestly!! i don’t think i see people post about him often enough to discern what the popular opinions of him are. if i see a post about him im just like ‘yayyy!! alucard!!’ and dont think too much about it to go ‘oohhh no i disagree’, yk?

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon

ok. stick with me here. even though schwab has said sooo many times that he isn’t a vampire and that she just liked the name, I SO WISH HE WAS. IMAGINE. that time in agos when he sneaks out the inn or wherever and lila notices that he DOESNT MAKE ANY SOUND when he’s usually jangling about the place?? i was fully geared up for the whole ‘i know what you are’ ‘say it’ ‘vampire’ confrontation from twilight between him and lila lmaooo. also. would make my vampire!lila fic so much easier. like if he turned all his crew once they joined the nightspire helloooo. imagine how sick the alucard-lila vampire privateer duo would’ve been.

also i’m think im biased. i love vampires in anything. anything could be improved with vampires.

also?? wasn’t the first thing he did when he saw rhy again kissing his neck?? THE POTENTIAL. SCHWAB, I KNOW YOU HAVE IT IN YOU. 🙏

So this fic's premise is: "Lila teaching Ren to pick pockets at some Royal Event"

It starts with Lila refusing to wear a dress and then being conscripted into taking Ren shopping, which I thought was fun to think about. Here is a lil snippet:

“Fine,” she muttered, “but I’m not wearing a dress.”

“No one expected you to,” Alucard pointed out and Kell shot him a glare.

“Do I have to wear a dress?” Ren asked, looking up from her book.

“Yes,” answered Rhy, Kell and Alucard as Lila said, “of course not.” Ren beamed. “I wanted to wear a fun coat like Aunt Lila.”

Lila grinned.

Rhy raised an eyebrow. “Very well, you can choose a coat from the market. Aunt Lila would be thrilled to take you shopping.”

Lila shot daggers at Rhy with her eyes, who simply smiled at her and waved his hands to indicate she’d brought this on herself. She glared at Kell who was clearly stifling a laugh and Alucard, the bastard, winked.

Ren’s dark eyes shone with excitement.

Lila crossed her arms. “Do we really think that’s safe?”

Rhy grinned. “Of course not, that’s why Alucard is going with you.” Alucard shot Rhy a betrayed look but melted the instant he saw Ren all but vibrating with excitement.

Fragile Threads of Power Theory-Ren’s Magic

I’ve been mulling over this theory for a year and a half but I finally put it into words. I’m likely not the first person to have had this idea! 

Spoilers for Fragile Threads of Power below

I think a key detail for the future Threads books is going to be what type of elemental magic (if any) Ren has. 

We get two (and a half-ish) clues in TFTOP for what her element will be. Each clue suggesting a different element (or none). 

One is Alucard’s direct prediction that she’ll be a wind mage (based on the fact she behaves like a normal four-year-old but I’ll digress). 

The half is that Rhy’s worst fear is Ren having no magic like him and V.E. Schwab cannot seem to let Rhy Maresh know peace. 

The second (and I think most compelling) piece of evidence is more subtle. It’s the increased inclusion of bone magic in this series compared to the original trilogy. In TFTOP there’s repeated reference to the fact that bone magic is illegal, more than we get in the original trilogy to my recollection (though to be fair this book does repeat some world building details for those using Threads as their jumping off point). We also get a character who is a bone magician (Nero), giving us a shred more insight as to what it’s like to wield an illegal element. The more bone magic referenced means we get Alucard’s confirmation he knows what those threads look like, should Ren manifest them. Given the increased amount of bone magic hasn’t had a clear bearing on the plot yet, I do wonder if it’s priming us to be on the lookout for bone magic elsewhere. 

With Ren’s affinity for animals, and bone magic being illegal because it can be used to control a living thing, the juxtaposition there would be so interesting to explore.

More importantly, imagine Ren, showing only an affinity for bone magic, having to be taught to hide her powers. So, in the eyes of the public she would have no element, proving their theory about Rhy and driving the Hand’s political fervor still more. 

It would be devastating and, as much as I love this theory, I don’t want to see it fulfilled on-page because it will absolutely break my heart. 

That being said, anyone else have any different theories about Ren’s magic?
