The electronic genre I called not-quite chill out is basically me mislabeling a couple of downtempo musicians into another neatly organized category yet again. Anyhow, Rena Jones, another example of the idiom, works as a session musician and she has a side gig in the form of her solo not-quite chill out work. I actually found out about her by googling about those who are downtempo, since most of them – check my previous post – are in this genre that avoids to be classified as chill out. Speaking of Mrs. Jones – she bases her tunes on her string instruments, which she then manipulates with the means of a machine. She's closer to many American electronica musicians in the vein of Stars Of The Lid, yet she appears to be less dark than them and more organic.
