So, I haven’t had a UTI (well, breakthrough) in 2 months. This has GOT to be a record.
CT scan on the kidneys scheduled for first thing Friday (the 12th) morning. I only have to fast for 6 hours. And, thank god, I don’t have to drink the contrast dye. I will, however, be injected with it.
Overview of the day
I’m overwhelmed, but okay. Does that even make any sense? Maybe feeling the aftermath of a long, long afternoon. Saw my new urologist. And he should be declared a saint or something, because he’s amazing. He was genuinely concerned for me, and even more so because I asked for a second opinion (from a different urologist). He asked why I wanted to change, and I blatantly told him that my last uro was no communicative at all. All he did was slap me with some antibiotics, ran no labs, etc., and told me to come back in 6 months. Did that, and he said the same thing and told me to come back in a YEAR. So naturally that shit did not fly with me. This new urologist was flabbergasted by how I was treated by my last one.
His assumption is that the last urologist assumed it was from sexual activity. I’m like, “Uhhh, no”, and proceeded to tell him the last time I was sexually active versus when the recurring UTIs start. And then he agreed with me that it is most likely not the cause. So, he said it’s probably an upper UTI, not a lower. Upper being in the kidneys (less common) and lower being in the actual urethra. I had a weird inkling all along that something was going on with my kidneys. I would have weird dreams that it was kidney failure or cancer of the kidneys. Something terrible. Anyway, off topic, he’s having me do more lab work (kidney function -- again), and a CT scan of them. I have the paperwork for the labs and have yet to hear from the radiology in Allegan for an appointment. And what really made all of this seem so much better than my last urologist or repeated visits to a physician’s assistant (BEFORE being referred to a specialist), is that he told me that I can come STRAIGHT to HIS office if I have a UTI. No middle man. Yes, he is WAAAAAAAY more personable than my last urologist. And I feel like a doctor should definitely have that quality. Or at least some fucking communication skills and empathy, for fuck’s sake.
Doctors appointment today.
It's time to try a new medicine, and I'm incredibly nervous. Years ago when I first went through this I was put on a medication that had the possibility of making me infertile. I still don't know if it had any effect on my body, and my biggest fear is that it's back on the docket.
I guess we'll see...
