hey, do you know what comic/issue the "MANHANDLING" panel is from?

yeah! it’s the cover of the second annual for The Batman and Robin Adventures, which was one of the first comics I ever read :) 

I ALSO FOUND HIM ON AN OLD BACKPACK AND IM SO HAPPY

i used to have another one accompanying it that just had the “MANHANDLING” banner on it, but that’s the one that fell off I think

this is one of the monotheism abrahamic god conundrums. like if god is all powerful and did everything, then god also willed evil. but if he didn’t, then he’s not all powerful

this was literally a topic in one of the bible study things I attended when I was still going to church. I forget if the guy/pastor presented any conclusion from this though

ITS A VERY BIG CONFLICT IT IS A VERY BIG QUESTION

so far the best reasoning i’ve found is just that god is capable of like. real, legitimate, profound love and that he wanted that for us, but that real actual love and real good and real happiness can only come from actively and freely choosing to do good and choosing to love. and that he’s omnipotent and omnipresent and omniscient but also carries the very human trait of like. hope. like when he flooded the world for a clean slate and there was still sin and he was so upset that he almost did it again until noah was like “no hey. listen. listen we can fix this” and he changed his mind

the only issue with that is that again, he’s omnipresent and omniscient and omnipotent and he knew all of this would happen before it did so in that case was he just???? in denial????? hoping????? is god capable of that kind of flawed reasoning if we’re not supposed to think he has flaws I JUST

the only way any of it makes sense to me is to think that with god making us in his image, the free will and the hope and a little of the messiness was on some level inherited directly from him. but i don’t think i’m supposed to think that

DUDE, actual exchange with a student old enough to be my mother, concerning peer review:

student[in front of entire class, btw]: I just don’t see the point to having other students read my work. Why can’t YOU read all of the papers??

me: *reiterates the pedagogical use of reading and commenting on other people’s work and reminds that they can come to office hours if they want me to look at draft or email me parts for feedback*

student: I just think you should comment on all of them *stares*

me, exasperated, but trying not to show it: I have 120 students. To read and comment on a paper takes 30 min. That would be 60 hours, pretending I don’t go home, sleep, eat, prepare for class, or ... do anything else with friends or family before class the day after tomorrow, and I still would be 14 hours short of getting it back to you in time for the next class so you could use the comments for the final draft. 

student: I don’t understand why you just can’t read and comment on our drafts though. 

me: *blinks* ... I honestly don’t know what to tell you. Should I do the math again?
