The life of five-year-old James T. Kirk changes when an elderly Vulcan lost in time crosses his path and saves him. In the years to come, as the boy grows up into a young man, Spock is his driving force, his mentor, his friend, a constant in his life.
I'm so excited to finally share my contributions to the 2025 @renegadeguild Bound Fic Exchange! Chosen by the incredibly talented @serpentsnestpress, it was a little intimidating to create a typeset and bound book for a fandom I'm not that familiar with 😅 But I've had so much fun reading the story, searching for Star Trek-appropriate typesetting ideas, and binding this little A6-sized book.
Wrapping my head around this phenomenon continues to be quite difficult.
You’re a man living two years ahead, in my home, using my mailbox?
Somehow, inexplicably, we occupy the same corner of space, but not at the same time.
Somehow, inexplicably, I believe you.
My second contribution to the 2025 @renegadeguild Bound Fic Exchange, and oh my god, was I in love!
When I saw this fic on @serpentsnestpress's wish list, I immediately got starry-eyed. I love this fic so much. It is gorgeous and heartbreaking and wonderful, and if you haven't read it yet, what are you waiting for??
I totally leant into maximalism with this typeset, trying to capture the epistolary narration with different fonts, post-it notes, flyers, napkins, etc. The book itself is bound in starched blue cloth (which I fell in love with immediately!) and as always hand-foiled.
The Consequences (of our Actions) by @anchoredarchangel
A list, a prince, an NDA, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and a night better than any of the fantasies that preceded it. No consequences. That was the whole point.
This is it. The story that started it all.
Over a year ago, I tentatively asked Anchor whether I could maybe possibly eventually bind the story that I so desperately wanted to read on paper. I knew nothing about bookbinding (I didn't even really have hobbies), and it was frightening and frustrating and thrilling to learn something new.
And now I could finally send her this author copy!
Thank you to @anchoredarchangel for her incredible writing as well as her endless patience and encouragement, to @elorberryart for allowing me to use her wonderful art for the title page, and to the @renegadeguild for all of the invaluable help along the way.
Typeset:
This was my very first typeset, and my Photoshop skills were limited, but I really enjoyed trying to create little icons that match each of the chapters.
Binding:
A4 Folio (A5)
80 gsm Anjali Creamy White Book Wove paper
Three-colour silk endbands in red, white and (royal) blue 😉
Custom-made endpapers
Book cover and spine hand-foiled
What could have gone better:
Snails would have laughed at the speed of this project. I kept being delayed by having to buy equipment and then having to learn how to use said equipment until I was confident enough to try it on this book.
But I honestly could not be happier with my progress. On the left is the very first book that I bound in February this year and on the right is the author copy of the same book:
It has been...several...months since the 2026 Binderary event organised by the @renegadeguild but I have finally gotten around to photographing this year's binds.
My goal this year was to bind four books in one month and I almost made it! Funnily enough, the smallest of the four books ended up taking me absolutely ages...!
I also tried some new and exciting binding styles. Pictured from top left to bottom right:
The Consequences of our Actions (own copy and much improved author copy)
(Super-)Nova, Baby (I'm currently working on the author copy, big reveal coming soon!)
A Court of Flames and Shadows
A Court of Bonds and Glamours
The Dictionary of the Vulgar Tongue (very happy to share the typeset if anyone is interested!)
Two mystery books as part of the Renegade Bindery Exchange
From small notebooks to massive chonkers, this year had it all - including killing my trusty old HP printer (RIP, you are missed), amassing large amounts of scrap paper, cutting and stabbing myself repeatedly, trying wood chisels and terrible guillotines, and regularly screaming into the void. But I can wholeheartedly say that I have enjoyed every minute of it!
A big thank you to the Renegade Bookbinding Guild for their invaluable resources and help and all of the incredible authors who have inspired me to start this journey so I can read their amazing stories on paper 💜
I'm ready for new adventures (and costly purchases 🤣) this year!
When Alex fails to qualify for the 2022 Winter Olympics, it’s all too easy to blame Henry Fox, the dual citizen who’d switched from Team GB to Team USA and snagged the last spot for men’s figure skating. Yet after Alex is abruptly thrown back into the games, he forms an unexpectedly deep connection with Henry. Except no athlete who aims for the top of the podium can afford any serious distractions. Will Alex be able to keep his flaring emotions in check and take home the Olympic gold medal he’s always aimed for?
I honestly can't think of anything greater than watching the 2026 Winter Olympics while re-reading this absolute masterpiece. I'm serious, drop everything right now and read it!!!
This gorgeous copy was bound for me by Aioli An Press, who also created the incredible cutout on the cover that is made to look like an ice rink. Seriously, how cool is that?!
Umbreongurl is the tits as always and commissioned me to bind her fic series Beef and Broccoli: A Study. She wanted it to look very serious on the outside but I couldn't help but add a little something to the back.
