how do u feel about how caitvi was handled in season 2? i was so sad bc i felt like they fumbled it and i think the writers def cared abt jayce + viktor more than vi + cait. like 'who needs character development when we can have a poorly timed sex scene' lmao. i know as a lesbian i just ended up not liking them together by the end bc i felt like vi's character was sacrificed for the sake of having her end up with cait
okay so i actually liked how they were handled, but i think that’s only because i read interviews with the writers after the fact and i had some time to sit on it.
at first i think the sex scene was kind of jarring and unexpected, but when i went back and rewatched it and thought about it some more, something clicked. like, vi is sitting there thinking that she’s lost absolutely everybody. she’s lost vander, she thinks she’s lost caitlyn or that caitlyn and her wouldn’t be able to be together anymore, and she doesn’t know that jinx is planning on killing herself at that point, but she has just been told that she isn’t needed anymore. enter caitlyn, who doesn’t say it outright, but she does absolutely let vi know that she’s the one who orchestrated jinx’s escape. if caitlyn didn’t want it to happen, the keys wouldn’t have been left out for vi to find. the guards wouldn’t have been posted at the hexgates. caitlyn essentially tells vi that “i love you more than i want revenge on your sister” and vi finally lets herself go and actually expresses that attraction.
one of the lead writers did an interview after the series wrapped and said something to the effect of that they had to imagine vi when she has nobody left to protect. once that happens, she can fall in love, and that’s what she did. i think that scene was extremely important for her character!
