Rentstuck AU

Okay I came up with this at least a year ago but I just realized I never posted about it, which is a shame because it works out so well?? Basically, it started because I inagined John and Calliope singing The Tango Maureen, but abou Roxy, and somehow from there I recasted the whole damn musical. Like, obviously John's Mark, Roxy's Maureen, and Callie's Joanne. From there... Mark's BFF is Roger, so Roger is Dave. Roger's endgame ship is Mimi, so Mimi is Karkat. And from there, once you realize that Mimi's BFF is dating Mark and Roger's other BFF, that makes Collins Rose and Angel Kanaya. And Benny is Terezi because Karezi drama and because she can be the Lawful-aligned ex-friend since this is an AU. And it just works ao good? Like, IDK, I think it's a good AU. Like a few scenes would probably go different than in the actual musical, just because the characters are different people. But pls imagine Karkat getting progressively pissier over the course of trying to get Dave to go out with him, and Dave is just *sweats nervously.* ALSO characters would probably have a lot of weird interconnections, so like... with the whole Roxlliope thing, it wouldn't even just be "wow Roxy left John for a girl" it's more like "wow Roxy left John for his roommate's brother's boyfriend's twin sister" or something and I feel like Rose would feed off of that uncomfortableness (especially since she already KNOWS THIS when she asks probably). The only bad thing is that Kanaya dies and that makes me sad :///
