“You better not have anything planned like last year when we get to the restaurant, Daiki. Or I’ll throw a volleyball at your head.” Washijou Tanji gripped as he made his way toward his son’s car. His son laughed nervously, scratching the back of his head after locking his Father’s home.

“Don’t worry, Dad. It’s not going to be like your birthday last year, it’s going to be much smaller.” Washijou Daiki reassured as he caught up to his elderly Father. 

Tonight was the elder’s birthday, turning eighty-one and he would much rather be spending his birthday at home with his cat. But his son insisted that he take his Father out on his birthday. The elder groaned as he opened the car door and sat in the front seat. 

“Grandpa!” A voice came from the backseat. The elder turned to see who else would be joining them and was hugged by the guest. And that guest was his Granddaughter, Suzume.  “Happy birthday!!”

The elder chuckled and patted her arm. “Thank you, sweetheart.”

Reon sat up. He had been sprawled out on his bed, reading a book for his History course when loud banging against his door interrupted him. 

He walked over, confused, and opened it. Yamagata stood in front of him, soaking wet. Reon, wide-eyed, muttered, “Hayato? What are you doing here? Why are you all wet?” 

“I…” Yamagata was breathless and his cheeks were dusted bright pink. He looked like he’d been running. “I…sprinted…all the way here from the…gym…s’pouring out there!” 

“Come in,” Reon ushered him inside. 

“No, no,” Yamagata said, stopping him. “I’m not going to be long. I just need to tell you something.”

Reon eyed him, tiredly, “Hayato, we talked about this. It’s too late in the year to start anything. You know we’re going to separate universities and–”

“Do it. I dare you. Take a chance, Reon, I’m begging you! You don’t want to spend the rest of your life wondering what could’ve been!” Yamagata’s eyes were wide and his wet hands were clenched into fists. He stepped closer towards Reon. 

“Hayato–”

“Please, Reon. I know you know I love you. And I know you love me! What are we doing? Standing here, loving each other and doing nothing about it! That’s pointles–”

This time, it was Yamagata who got cut off. Reon pressed his lips to Yamagata’s, wrapping his arms around Yamagata’s shoulder and pulling him closer. Yamagata’s eyes flew open in shock but once he realized what was going on, they fluttered closed again and he began to kiss back. 

Once they broke apart, Reon laughed, running a hand through Yamagata’s damp hair. 

“You’re all wet,” Reon said, in between chuckles. 

Yamagata stared back before smiling and laughing himself. 

“I love you,” Yamagata tells him. 

“I know.  I love you too.”

Random Shiratorizawa Boys Headcanons

you guys know i love the shiratorizawa boys to death and here are a bunch of random headcanons for them 

Ushijima:

▸ he has a potted tomato plant in his dorm room, by the window. He loves watering it when he wakes up, before doing his morning run

▸ on multiple occasions, the track team has tried to get him because they’ve seen how fast he can run (too bad he’s a super volleyball idiot)

▸ he’s a really slow eater

▸ roommates with reon !!

▸ he gets lost when they go to places as a team because he walks much faster than the rest of the team. usually, semi is the one to find him and drag him back to the group

▸ he’s the one that reminds teachers about the homework. he’s just oblivious likes that

▸ he’s been confessed to many times, but tendou has scared multiple girls off (don’t touch his wakatoshi)

▸ he doesn’t like watching movies that much and he will only go to the cinema if it’s a team “bonding” outing or with tendou

Tendou:

❃ he has insomniac periods every once in awhile that he takes meds for. ushijima stops by every night to make sure he takes his pills

❃ roommates w semisemi !!

❃ sneaks off campus with semi after dinner and they go shopping and eat desserts that wouldn’t be allowed on campus

❃ has a pet lizard at home that his cousin takes care of while he’s at school. he named it after an anime character

❃ met bokuto once, during nationals. they exchanged numbers and they frequently send each other memes but never really talk

❃ actually quite popular, but everyone knows he’s dating ushijima (except for a few girls who crush hard on the ace)

❃ once he broke one of the racks that hold the volleyball supplies because he was explaining a chapter of a manga he liked and got too excited

❃ such a dork but we love him

Shirabu:

➣ tried to cut his own hair during first year and screwed up but he just? stuck with it?

➣ has also been confessed to by some girls, but he’s super gay so he turned them down as politely (read: awkwardly) as he could

➣ rooms with kawanishi !!

➣ he’s super messy and kawanishi is always getting mad cuz he trips over all of shirabu’s clothing when he walks around the room

➣ shirabu is the worst cook in the world. once, he tried to help semi bake cookies and was banned from the kitchen (all semi asked him to do was cream the sugar and butter how did he even manage to screw it up?)

➣ hatES roadwork so much 

➣ crush on ushijima (even though he’s dating semi)

➣ best friendos with kawanishi even though they bicker all the time. it’s what they do, it’s a salt based friendship

➣ pretends not to be so co-dependent but really has no idea what he’s gonna do when semi graduates

➣ has a pet bunny

Semi:

✧ loves strawberry chapstick but hates strawberries. always has some strawberry flavored lip product with him at all time

✧ roomies with tendou !!

✧ tendou turned him into an anime nerd but he refuses to admit it

✧ his family owns a bakery so he learned how to bake at a really young age. he’s the team’s resident baker and makes cookies for them during “bonding night” 

✧ best friends with tendou and close with kawanishi and yamagata

✧ hAS BEEN CONFESSED TO SO MANY TIMES WHAT EVEN (shirabu is salty)

✧ eldest of 5 kids, which is why he has paternal tendencies. also why he’s considered the team mom

✧ had a rough setter/ace relationship with ushijima when he was the official setter but they’ve become closer as high school progressed and now are great friends

✧ won’t admit how much he really cares for shirabu

✧ i love semi what a handsome boy <3

Yamagata:

❂ the team bought him a keychain that beeps when needed for his phone so he doesn’t lose it because jesus christ he needs it

❂ can’t find his phone but can always find his keys

❂ rooms with someone from the soccer team because he didn’t put in his roommate recommendation in time

❂ he’s gotten into a fight before (it was sort of an accident, we don’t talk about it) and semi had to patch him up, while scolding him all the while (he also got quite a scolding from reon)

❂ has lunch with goshiki because he is a good senpai™

❂ cat person but loves dogs as well

❂ plays a lot of video games. he doesn’t have insomnia like tendou but can get carried away at night and forgets to sleep sometimes

❂ has talked to nishinoya over instagram a few times. they cool

❂ an angry little bean <3

Goshiki:

✰ bionic immune system. even when the whole team is down with a bug, he’d never get it. 

✰ has had a pure little crush on ushijima (don’t tell tendou-san please!) 

✰ rooms with a classmate

✰ loves all of his senpais so much !!!

✰ likes semi’s tosses better than shirabu’s but don’t tell shirabu or he’ll stop tossing to goshiki during matches

✰ his favorite dog is a toy poodle and whenever he sees one, he will pet the shit out of it

✰ he has an irrational fear of pigeons and squirrels (again, don’t tell shirabu or he will never live it down)

✰ the campus is so big, his first few weeks, he had to use rollerblades to get around fast enough

✰ texts and skypes hinata all the time, they talk about dreams of being the ace and their amazing senpais!!

Kawanishi:

☁︎  wants a nap 24/7

☁︎ loves shirabu but he’s constantly pissed off at how messy shirabu is. like...please put your underwear in the hamper, it is literally 8 feet away

☁︎ pretty close to yamagata. he plays video games online with yamagata at night if he can’t sneak out to yamagata’s dorm

☁︎ he loves american food

☁︎ dogs are his favorite things ever? please give him all the puppies

☁︎ his parents weren’t around much, he was pretty much raised by his grandparents. he’s much closer to his grandma than his mother

☁︎ has a small crush on both semi and tendou, even though they are both dating other people

☁︎ ushijima bought him a plant for his birthday and he loves it. it’s on his desk and he always makes sure to water it

Reon:

❊ loves to read all types of books. even american-translated classics

❊ he’s considering playing volleyball through college but isn’t sure if it’s what he wants to pursue as a career

❊ he and yamagata hold hands and have kissed before but aren’t starting any relationship as they are going to different colleges

❊ a very tidy person

❊ has a pet parakeet that his parents take care of while he’s at school

❊ FaceTimes his family regularly. He misses them a lot while he’s at school, but he loves the team like family

❊ gets a headache from the shouting whenever the team plays board games during “ bonding night”

❊ he and the rest of the third years eat dinner together at least twice a week

General Headcanons:

❐ “bonding night” is every saturday. they take turns deciding what to do 

❐ it was semi’s idea to make “bonding night” officially a thing but it was goshiki who first suggested going to karaoke one saturday night

❐ the third years promised to skype, text, email and stay in contact with each other and the rest of the team

❐ they all really love and support each other they are the best team fite me

Tendou has always been convinced that out of everyone in Shiratorizawa, Ushijima and Yamagata have the best immune system. He never saw either of them sick, like no coughing or even the sniffles. So when the signs of illness started to show up during practice one day; Tendou wasn’t surprised to see Ushijima and Yamagata being their usual selves.

“Hayato is bedridden with the flu, coach!” Reon announced at morning roll call.

“Ha? Yamagata is out?” Washijo asked as Reon nodded.

“Yes sir. He couldn’t get out of bed and he did not look well.” The wing spiker responded.

“Very well. Akakura! You’ll be taking his place.” Washijo announced as they soon then started training.

“I can’t believe Hayato is actually sick.” Jin commented after practice, the team getting dressed for school.

“Trust me,” Reon started as he started to button his shirt up. “I couldn’t believe it either when I went to wake him up.”

“Wakatoshi, you better watch out. You and Hayato are the two who don’t get sick and Hayato got sick. You could be next.” Semi warned as he smirked toward Ushijima, who was putting his blazer coat on.

“I will do my best not to fall sick. I think we should all stay away from Hayato until he has recovered from his illness.” Ushijima suggested as everyone agreed.

“Ah I think he caught it from me last week so it’s only a cold.” Reon responded as he waved that suggestion off.

“But how hard is Yamagata-san being hit by that cold?” Shirabu asked with a raised eyebrow. It really sounded like the cold was nothing.

“…Well like I said, he couldn’t get out of bed this morning. And it’s not a cold, which is what I had last week, but the flu.” Reon nervously chuckled.

“Can a cold turn into something else? Is that possible?” Goshiki questioned as he looked up from packing his bag up.

“I don’t think so.” Kawanishi answered with a yawn. “Either way, Yamagata-san is sick and Akakura is the libero for this week.”

“I-I’ll do my best!” Akakura announced as Tendou laid his arm across the first year’s shoulder.

“Ah yes, precious Akakura finally gets the play with the big guns!” Tendou said. “Right Wakatoshi-kun?”

“Yes of course.” Ushijima replied as he picked up his bag. “Reon, I will ask for Hayato’s work from today and give it to you so you can pass it on to him.”

“Ah I appreciate that, Wakatoshi. Though I doubt he’ll touch the work while he’s sick.” Reon nodded in agreement.

“Hell no. Who wants to do school work while you have the flu?” Semi asked as the team started to leave the locker room and toward the school.

“Exactly.”

Reon rushed over to the dorms to drop off Yamagata’s work from the day before afternoon practice. The wing spiker had also made a quick run to the store to pick up a few things for his sick boyfriend, plenty of fluids and soft foods. Reon also sent a text to his mother, asking if she could make some of soup and drop it off in the next few days. She responded saying she would and would even make some for the team (the whole team loves her cooking, saying she’s a blessing sent from heaven).

“Hayato?” Reon called out as he knocked on the door. A cough came as an answer that was followed by a groan. The wing spiker pushed the door open and entered the room. The room was dark and before he could move over the bed, his eyes adjusted.

When they adjusted to the darkness, Reon moved over to the bed where Yamagata was fast asleep. The wing spiker chuckled as he set the bag of drinks and food down and gently stroked his boyfriend’s warm cheeks. Yamagata’s face was all red from the fever and coughing so much, a little sweaty too. 

Reon did’t have the heart to wake him up, Yamagata had slept most of the day by what he could tell. So instead, he put the drinks on his bedside and put the folder of work on his desk. Reon wrote a note and placed it on one of the drinks before bending down and placing a kiss on Yamagata’s forehead, feeling his fever in the process.

“I just came to check in on you. I’ll see you when I get out of training. I love you.” Reon whispered as he covered the libero up and left the door.

Training came to an end and came dinner time. The whole team now hyped for Reon’s mom cooking that would be coming sometime this week and of course. Everyone walked back to their dorms and wished each other good night, some going with others to study for a test. Reon would let everyone know how Yamagata is in the morning, which they all were grateful for.

“Hayato? How are you feeling?” Reon asked as he knocked on his boyfriend’s door.

“Wha? Reon?” Yamagata’s horsed voice came. “Wha?”

The wing spiker blinked as he came into the dorm and saw the sick libero sitting up in bed looking so confused.

“How are you feeling?” Reon asked as he walked over and sat on the bed.

“But why are you here?” Yamagata asked. Reon blinked.

“Because my boyfriend is sick and I’m concerned about him?”

“But weren’t you on vacation?”

“No?”

“But your note said you went to Canada!” Yamagata exclaimed, holding the note up while coughing. Reon took the note to make sure he didn’t misspell anything.

Came to check on you and you were asleep. I left you some fluids and soft foods to eat. My mom will be bring you some food sometime this week :) Have a nice rest. I love you ❤︎ -Reon

“What?”

14. “Do you…well…I mean…I could give you a massage?”

A typical day meant a long training day for Shiratorizawa. The moment class let out for the day, the players were training until dinner. Running laps around the school multiple times, spiking the ball, receiving the ball (And praying their arm doesn’t break their arms when Ushijima is serving) and blocking was basically their day. The players rested during their water breaks, some falling to the floor and the someone pouring water over their face, such as Kawanishi does to Tendou after break is called. Proclaiming each time how Kawanishi is an angel that has come to bless him with water.

Kawanishi dropped the bottle onto Tendou’s head before walking over to get a towel for himself.

“Satior thinks anyone who brings him water is an angel. He’s called all of us one.” Reon chuckled as he handed Kawanishi a towel.

“Yeah because he’s “too defeated” by the demon that is our couch to get up and walk to get the water himself.” Yamagata smirked as he whipped his own face. 

“He’s just lazy that’s all. Semi-san will get him during practice, I think were doing serves next.” 

“Oh and I think Shirabu just pissed Eita off so it’ll be a powerful serve!” Yamagata stood up on the bleachers and jumped off, pretending like he was serving. “And right in the face- ah fuck!”

When landing, there was a serve sharp pain shot through Yamagata’s leg. It made him fall to the ground, but Reon caught him before he could touch the floor. “Ah fuck!”

“Taichi, go get the first aid kit!” Kawanishi nodded and rushed to get the kit as Yamagata groaned.

“Goddamn charley horse.”

“Ah I hate those. Especially when they wake you up at night.” Like anyone who has experience a charley horse, they were not pleasant. 

“Ugh their a pain in the ass.” Yamagata groaned as he leaned against the bleacher as Kawanishi returned with the first aid kit.

“We don’t need to Taichi, Hayato just has a charley horse. Sorry about that.” Reon apologized as the second year gave a nod and placed the kit next to the third years in case they needed it. Then the whistle blew signing that break was over.

“Oh great. Time to get back to practice and I’m suck with a-”

“Do you…well…I mean…I could give you a massage?” 

“…Yeah sure. I trust your massages more than anyone else. Like Wakatoshi.” The libero answered while crossing his arm, slightly wincing as the wing spiker started to gently massage the calf.

“I’m the only one who’s ever given you one.”

“And you’ll be the only one.”
