I have a theory about Getaway car. It’s complete crack and almost entirely reaches, but it kinda fits with the current suspected Tily/Kaylor timeline.
Basically my theory is that Getaway Car is written about/inspired by both her relationship with Lily and with Karlie and then altered to fit the ‘hiddleswift’ narrative. Total speculation but basically...-
maybe Taylor was starting to either: feel something for Lily, get tired of Karlie’s connection to the Kushner’s especially after/during the election, or worry about how Karlie’s connection’s reflect on her brand. Kaylor then maybe broke up around the election so beginning-middle October, and Tily got together on or just before Thanksgiving. Maybe by accident or maybe with the intention of just FWB and they caught feelings. Not as deep as Swiftgron or Kaylor, but feelings nonetheless. Then potentially Tily both felt guilty about Taylor moving on so quickly, especially considering it was with a mutual friend.
Verse 1 - Tily
Worst of crimes // could be cheating on Karlie or could be about getting with a friend of your ex
You didn’t see it // Tily started off as friends, maybe lily didn’t see Taylor’s attraction at first or vice-versa
I wanted to leave him Needed a reason // him referring to Karlie, wanting to leave her bc of the election or maybe the election was the ‘reason’ (excuse) she used
Pre-Chorus & Chorus - Karlie
He poisoned the well I was lying to myself // Karlie having associations with kushners/trumps after the election poisoned the relationship? She was lying to herself that Kaylor could work or about not having feelings for lily?
Should’ve known I’d be the first to leave // Taylor broke it off
Think about the place where you first met me // could be @ Karlie to think about the VSFS...where she also met Lily
Verse 2 - Tily
The light of freedom on myself // freedom from Karlie? The Kaylor relationship? Glass closeting? The latest beard?
You weren’t thinkin And I was just drinkin // maybe Lily & Taylor got drunk together and something happened sooner than expected. Potentially at or just before thanksgiving?
While he was runnin after us // Karlie might’ve still wanted Taylor back and/or Taylor could mean she didn’t want Karlie to find out about her and lily
Now we’re both sorry // her and lily happened very soon after Kaylor broke up and lily was a friend of Karlie, they were likely sorry about that
Bridge - Karlie
Until I switched to the other side // talking about politics maybe? Maybe she couldn’t be with someone openly associated with trump
Us traitors never win // potentially about how their relationship was doomed bc of the overlap with Swiftgron? Complete reach
That was the last time you ever saw me // Kaylor didn’t interact for a WHILE
