An Attempt to Repeal the 19th

This isn’t a surprising move by Trump supporters, because their actions don’t arise from nothing. Trump has made his misogynistic beliefs loud and clear. From openly supporting the defunding of Planned Parenthood to bragging about sexual assault on women because when you’re famous, “you can do anything.” Trump’s reckless, offensive, and hurtful comments give rise to rape culture, misogyny, and violence. If Trump is our president, young boys will grow up thinking it’s acceptable to assault women and treat them as lesser because as Trump supporters put it, “boys will be boys!” As the future of America, those old enough to vote must give their vote to Hillary because rape culture, misogyny, and racism are not values our country holds dear.

In the week of October 10th, a popular image began to circulate online. The image was two photos of the United States: one showed what the election would look like if only men voted, and the other if only women could vote. For men, Trump wins by a landslide; and for women, it’s vice versa for Hillary. The image was shocking, but what shocked even more people was what happened after the images were released. #RepealThe19th began to trend on Twitter. “As all can see #repealthe19th is our only hope” one user said, “Giving women the right to vote was the first step in the downfall of western society. They voted us straight into communism.#repealthe19th” said another. Although, many on Twitter soon retaliated against those who wanted to repeal the 19th amendment: “#RepealThe19th is the dumbest idea in the history of American politics. #GOP #women #misogyny #NeverTrump.” For those who don’t know, the 19th amendment allows women to vote. Meaning, Trump supporters believe that since most women in the country didn’t want their candidate as president, their voting rights should be restricted. To put things in perspective, the 19th amendment was passed in 1920, and it’s 2016. Trump supporters beliefs set American history back another 100 years.
