since the dawn of humankind, people have heard their companions sing beautiful songs and dreamed of hearing the same song again. you could hope the same bard passed through again, you could learn the words and notes yourself, you could befriend musically-inclined people, craft instruments, and recreate the song yourself. but to demand to hear the same song again in succession was the place of kings, or at least those rich in coin. recorded music alone was a quantum leap to dizzying heights, and we quickly invented a robot capable of repeat play, if only again for those (moderately) rich in coin. so you will appreciate the goddamn repeat button, and you will listen to a great song 10 times in a row today.

imagining descending into a pitch-black cave to witness a priestess chanting before an ancient mural carving, torches making the shadows dance, could they really be in time with the music? then you leave after three and a half minutes, saying "I don't want to get tired of it, maybe I'll witness a miracle again for a couple minutes tomorrow"
