29:Reaction to sudden extrapersonal disaster (eg The house is on fire! What do they do?)

of course things would vary upon the disaster, but chiyo is the type to kind of shove down whatever she’s feeling in order to cope with the current problem and get out of the situation as fast as possible; if other people like her parents are involved, her main focus is making sure that they’re removed from the situation and out of harm’s way. she thinks through everything logically and will typically know exactly what to do because she does read so much, though there are some instances in which i’m sure chiyo would have a bit of a breakdown and be utterly useless -- for example, seeing someone she cares about die during this catastrophe.

as for naoki, he’d be similar to chiyo in knowing exactly what to do because of how much he’s read and being quick to get out of there, but he would probably be less in control of his emotions. he’d be horribly worried about his parents and/or friends (depending on who’s around and the situation) and wouldn’t hesitate to rush head first to get them to safety. if anyone were to get hurt during a disaster, it’d probably be naoki because he’d be reckless.

chiyo tries extremely hard to hold everything in until she’s alone. even if it’s obvious how she’s feeling, she won’t break down or openly show her inner turmoil until she can do so in complete and utter solitude so as to avoid the feeling of judgement and to avoid worrying other people. she internalizes as much as possible and keeps everything to herself -- she’s very private about such matters.

naoki also internalizes what he feels, but he’s not as good at keeping it all in and keeping it a secret. his emotions slip through the mask of indifference rather often, mostly when he’s allowing himself to delve into his thoughts. depending upon the disaster, he may start having outbursts like he did when he was a child, losing his temper easily and even childishly, and he’ll be like this until someone knocks some sense into him, be it literally or figuratively.
