Block 1 Summary
After looking over all of my work from block 1 my favourite work I have done is 100% the fashion front cover brief. I was very impressed with how the make up and also the final images. I was very nervous for this brief but I had done a lot of planning and preparation so was looking forward to getting it started. The lighting I used was very simple but effective and it created the look I wanted. I hadn’t loved working in the studio much before however this brief really got me keen to do more work in the studio. The brief “Contact Sheet” also gave me lots of idea on how to work in the studio and different lighting techniques. The area I’d like to improve on is location portraits. I have only done this a few times but feel there’s room for improvement. I’d also like to improve shooting with additional lighting, such as reflector, flash guns etc. There are many ways you can use this different equipment however I don’t feel I’m as comfortable with them as id like to be.

Stylish strangers
These are images that's boosted my confidence when researching images for this Stylish Strangers brief. I feel these images are very bold and full of character and this makes them successful. You will have to be confident when approaching people as this will give them extra confidence infront of the camera if they are nervous. I find the person you choose will be important as they are the one in the image, I think they'll need to have some cool clothes on or something that'll help pull people into the images. It also might be a good idea to find a nice background or location then wait patiently for the ideal character.

Have the question ready
Mawson combines elements of street photography with the person at work and creates slightly more obscure shots of what could still be interpreted as the person at work. Mawson takes shots from a lower angle, looking up at the subject where the identities are often hidden, with only the clothing visible. The shots are clearly taken around business fuelled areas such as near the Gherkin in London. You could argue that the shots do not show people working in a working environment, however they are clearly in work uniform and could perhaps simply be taking a break or moving from one meeting to another, which is all part of ‘the person at work’ . These photos show that not only does the worker not necessarily have to be working but also that there identity can be obscured.

"Our seven Savings Promises are designed to help you make the most of your savings. That means us doing all we can to look after your money, treat you fairly and give you great value."
*Nationwide already have a real friendly approach with their customers regarding savings accounts and have that sense of personification that we are highlighting in our concept. I feel that we can use a lot of what Nationwide are doing already and use our idea as an expansion to gain new customers rather than creating a completely new image for the brand. This is highlighted in the brief as the problem is not to change how they are perceived they just want to reach out to a new audience with their value of trust being a figurehead of that.
