the chapter i’m reading about art in the margins of medieval manuscripts has transitioned into specifically discussing snail imagery and their connection with chivalry, which i am absolutely not complaining about. let the snails be chivalrous

I love how in the version of Judith in the Metrical Paraphrase (Middle English) she actually speaks to Holofernes, whilst in the Old English version there's no dialogue between them, she just walks in and decks him with a sword
