Wrapping Up for the End of the Year
Yesterday I presented twice** at my university’s Research Symposium. In the morning, I was with my group for the poster presentation. Our poster was titled, “Do College Students Know the Effects of Zoos on Animals?” In the afternoon, I gave an oral presentation entitled “Gendered Views of Suicide in the Late 19th Century and Today.”***
I was really nervous with presenting since I had to talk for 15 minutes and while I was practicing I kept on going over by about 5 minutes. I spoke with my advisor during the poster presentation and she said that I could cut some things, which I did. I ended up finishing my oral presentation with a few seconds to spare. I answered a few questions, and it was over in less than a half hour!
I was so nervous leading up to it that I swore that I would not do it next year, but afterwards I know that I can do it again if I wanted to. It was not as bad as I thought it would be!
**The poster was with the Biological and Environmental Sciences Department and it was for my final class for my Biology minor. The oral presentation was with the English Department. I cared more about it because I am an English major. Also my professor for Research Methods (the poster presentation class), does not like the English department and would constantly talk down to them even after I told him I was an English major.
