Some texts from Research Sharing event.
PART III
Whirling dervish images I’ve shared on Research Sharing day. They are printed and tapped on the wall.
These were great references to “instinctual act” for the idea of performative making.
PART II
Volcano images I’ve shared on Research Sharing day. They are printed and tapped on the wall next works “Melancholia”
They were great references to idea of the pain in the gut and letting it out through catharsis. Also as a visual language, it was a great reference for my ceramic works “Melancholia”. Black and messy.
PART I
Random images I’ve shared on Research Sharing day. They are printed and tapped on the wall.
In research sharing event, I also exhibited this performance video that made in Istanbul in 2016.
It’s titled “Prelude”
“Duvarsiz ufacik bir oda, bilge ama cahil, cahil ama var, var ama yok.”
“A tiny room without walls, wise but ignorant, ignorant but existent, existent but nonexistent.”
Prelude is a very personal work, it provides clues about how I as an artist aim to see the world from an infinite perspective without molds. It exists as an uncomfortable yet therapeutic 11 minute-long performance where I criticise the infinite spiral born from the tendency to belong to certain molds as a result of cultural codes or discrimination and the need for balance as a consequence by attacking a balance scale. Prelude is the story of a self-defining war against self-discrimination; through video projection using a criminal visual language shaped by a conceptual process, it becomes timeless evidence.
“Healing Tactility”
“Rolling Robe”
Photos from my Research Sharing on February 19.
It was beyond what I expected. Firstly it was great to see all my works together and having the chance to talk on how they connect each other and sharing it people was super helpful for me to have an overview of my project.
I got feedbacks on showing more of my autobiographical works, rethinking about the material as a cultural reference and many sources to research more on the performance.
I also had a chance to present my work to Fine Art Digital online students, they’ve presented their work with a slideshow in the room too. Also got really nice feedbacks from them as well. And again many inspirational sources to look on.
I’m planning to show the work “Healing Tactility” on WIP show.
I continue to install the research sharing event display.
I made a new one. I wanted to use the photos that I brought from Turkey.
I digitally distorted photos on Photoshop and printed them on transparent papers. Also, cut out or faces, overlapped them, distanced them, hanged them in a metal display and depicted the idea of the face as a transition between souls. Hope in the daytime, the sun will shine and make this transparency work poetically.
I’m happy that I’m showing these autobiographical aspects of my work, which makes my work more “in real time”. I am also planning to add the caftan that I was wearing during my circumcision ceremony and my cut hair.
The other performance video is ready for the research sharing event.
I named it “Rolling Robe”
The performance video will be displayed with an iPad next to the performatively-rolled robe.
