Since Reshai was only able to transition socially, how was he able to handle gender dysphoria, especially since he had to have children and such?

Reshai definitely did have gender dysphoria that varied greatly in severity, it being the worst during his pregnancies. While his family and friends did support him as much as they could, it was not always pretty. But most of these Reshai did try to hide it publically just to maintain image as a ruler.

So when I made the ancient Unova society, I always emphasized that not all the laws and customs in this fantasy setting was not perfect esp since despite accepting all gender expressions, they still did give importance to having offspring and continuing the line even if a person’s gender expression may not match with this social obligation. Despite advances in certain technologies (i.e. making DNA splicers to try to help the empty Vahirom shell aka Kyurem), some stuff they were not very progressive in.

I always emphasize this but my own views are not reflected in the worlds I create!! Especially the whole “must have kids” thing…that part is kind of a huge common thing that I noticed for lots of old world societies putting great importance on inheritance.
