The Sage of the South: Alui Nemoria

HI GUYS I UPDATED ANOTHER OC OF MINE...I barely wrote much about this one (the og post had basic details that now feel really outdated) but now I am revisiting her to give her a proper bio and everything. Read under the cut!

Another member of the Justice Circle, a group of families that worship the Justice Quartet as their patron Pokemon. House Nemoria (Virizion patron) keeps the most extensive archives of the ancient Unovan kingdom's texts, subjects ranging from history to research in various fields of elemental types. Historically House Nemoria and Decretia were close, and similarly Alui herself was good friends with Navos, as they both underwent Sage training at the same time.

While Alui has a similar calm disposition like Navos, she is much quicker to take action in comparison. She had initially supported Reshai's faction in the Great Unovan War due to her alliances. However with the appearance of Virizion warning her, she was one of the earliest supporters for initiating the Northern Rebllion proposed by Lilion. Alui's knowledge in various magics would also help seal the two kings into the Dark and Light stone.

During the period of post-war peace that followed, Alui was approached by Navos to help him restore his partner and his twin brother back to their former human selves, and perhaps bring back Vahirom after it had been split. However she declined to help, feeling that this project was doomed and would not get the desired results. She did relent in letting King Kyuvos and Remil access her resources when they also requested help, but still did not directly participate. Alui's personal records note that since Vahirom had split, Virizion's voice had become silent…as if it were ignoring their prayers and offerings. This felt like a sign that despite stopping the senseless war, the damage had been done. And this was their punishment.

House Nemoria's name would fade away with time, but the archives they kept would eventually make its way into Nacrene University, the oldest educational institution of Unova. Virizion still resides in Pinwheel Forest, watching over their descendants.

And because I sort of imagine ancient Unova here being kinda like the Pokemon Conquest universe in partner mons, her partner Pokemon (that isn't Virizion) are Audino and Lilligant

The Sage of the West: Navos Decretia

Another updated OC profile after 11 years (and this is 2 out of 4 down lmao)...the og post is here for comparions lol

He is the husband/partner of Reshai and a member of the Justice Circle, a group of families that worship the Justice Quartet as their patron Pokemon. House Decretia (Cobalion patron) is the oldest and unofficial leader of the Circle. He is the second oldest in the family and the scholarly type. While his siblings were more specialized in combat (steelworks being a specialty), he leaned a bit more towards academia and later train to become a Sage, the highest title for a scholar.

Personality wise, Navos was known for his relatively calm and composed disposition. He also rarely got angry or upset, often bringing a calming presence to those that talked to him. He was also a good listener and King Reshai was noted to call him the most reliable man after his brother. It also helped that during his Sage training, Navos frequently helped with Reshai’s studies, which allowed both of them to bond (they are like 7 years apart). He tended to avoid frivolous court events, preferring to study in the archival libraries or teaching sage apprentices.

During the Great Unovan War, Navos was not necessarily a completely willing participant. He and Reshai would argue about this often and their relationship was falling apart at the seams. Things just got worse as Cobalion appeared before him, warning about the nullification of the Great Contract of Vahirom if the war continued. So a part of him was relieved when Lilion proposed the Northern Rebellion, but also felt horribly conflicted. Even though it did break him internally to see his in-laws lash out at the news, he stood his ground. His self-imposed blame would only get worse when he heard that the two kings had split Vahirom to become dragons themselves. Feeling responsibility, he was the main engineer in forging the magic to seal them into stones.

During the 20 years of rebuilding and being co-regents with Lilion, he also spent all of his spare time trying to find a way to undo whatever curse/spell/magic(?) that the twin kings self-inflicted to become dragons. This was deterioriating his health and he was forced to step down early. As they came of age, his son and nephew (Lilion's son) would become Kings and continue his work. A "fusing" device was eventually developed, and an attempt to restore the former twin kings were done. For reasons unknown, this would fail horribly, causing Remil to get killed by Zekrias. The dragons were re-sealed, and no further work was done to solve this problem.

As Kyuvos stepped down from the throne shortly after, he and Navos basically disappeared from history. While Navos’s exact burial site is unknown, people theorize it is located in Mistralton Cave, where Cobalion has been occasionally sighted.

And because I sort of imagine ancient Unova here being kinda like the Pokemon Conquest universe in partner mons, his partner Pokemon (that isn't Cobalion) are Escavalier and Sawsbuck.

The Fighter of the North: Lilon Roburia

Updated this old OC ref after 11 years since her first post of it here omg....

Not much changes to her bio but sliightly updated one under the cut

She is the wife of Zekrias and a member of the Justice Circle, a group of families that worship the Justice Quartet as their patron Pokemon. House Roburia has the strongest military presence in the region after the king’s own army, stationed at the Victory Road region as their stronghold. As the youngest child (out of three) in the Roburia family, she did not grow up without having to bear the burden of her family name. But it didn’t lessen her fierce loyalty to Roburia, even when she was married off to one of the kings.

She is highly opinionated and vocal, she was known to argue with her husband to get her points/ideas across. Zekrias did not mind this, since she also was able to keep up with his ideas and was a good conversationalist, keeping him grounded. In her spare time, she is often seen in the training grounds.

During the Great Unovan War, she was one of the key generals that helped King Zekrias's faction win several battles. After a certain victory in battle, Terrakion appeared before her. The Justice Quartet had seen the destruction this war was causing on not just the humans and their Pokemon companions, but also the Pokemon that were not actively participating. Seeing this, they gave an ultimatum: stop the senseless bloodshed or the great contract of Vahirom would be voided null, leaving the humans to fend for themselves. Horrified, she tried to relay this warning to her husband, but he was too far gone in wanting his ideals realized.

So instead the Justice Circle held a secret meeting. The heads of the houses did confirm their patreon did warn them in a similar manner, so Lilion took action and caused the Northern Rebellion, in which the armies from the Justice Circle would completely withdraw from both factions and actively protect neutral Pokemon and people from the war. The betrayal the twin kings felt was immense and they were furious. Zekrias tried to find Lilion, she and her son had already escaped to the Roburia stronghold in the north. This rebellion effectively reduced the army size of both warring sides, and caused the Kings to be desperate enough to look to seek help from the Original Dragon Vahirom themself.

…when the war did finally cease, she returned to the battered capital (currently Dragonspiral Tower/Iccirus City) and became a regent with King Reshiram’s partner, Navoes. When their children became of age, she stepped down and resumed her duty as the head of the royal army. Despite her best wishes, she wound end up outliving her son. When her nephew stepped down from the throne as well, she also retired for good. It was said that after she passed away and was buried in the mountains (now Victory Road), Terrakion guards over her tomb.

Nope, the comic had its first page posted May 5th so I consider the nuzlocke anniversary to be that (I post my nuzlocke anniversary art at that time).

Because May isn't really associated with summer and the adventure basically starts on Nina's birthday, I bumped her birth date up to be June 5. Just assume Unova treats June 1st as their official summertime start as opposed to IRL's summer start date being June 21st.

2026 vs 2012

...Has it really been that long?

May 5th 2011 does not feel that long ago, yet it is. While I was working on my nuzlocke Pokemon White comic, I have drawn an anniversary pic more or less around this time of the year (browse the tag here). I stopped after I finally finished the project on Dec 24th 2017.

Revisiting this tradition again made me very nostalgic. While some stuff will probably sound repetitive, gonna yap about it under the cut.

I was a bored college student back in early 2011. I had just finished playing a nuzlocke of Pokemon Diamond, and had been nearly done drawing that comic. While I thought I was going to play HeartGold next, various technical difficulities with regards to the game made me pivot to playing something different. Coincidentally a new generation of Pokemon was coming up, and a nuzforum friend gave me a copy of Pokemon White (JP translated version). The info about the gameplay was scant due to Pokemon not yet implementing global releases, but I didn't care. Still played it as a nuzlocke for fun.

Despite all the flaws (that I noticed some time after my first playthru), I had a great time. And it gave a good premise of what I wanted to show from a narrative standpoint. My first nuzlocke comic was a shitpost fever dream (not literally but does feel like it lol), I wanted to try my attempt at a slightly more serious story. And tbh, while the forums back in the day mostly had joke-y/comedic runs there were many who were receptive to such things. Probably helped I was one of the first gen 5 nuzlocke runs being posted then.

Compared to some of the more current nuzlocke/nuzlocke-derivative works I have been catching up on, my stuff is VERY basic. I guess that is why some people consider it a "classic" nuzlocke because I just sort of drew it without changing TOO much of the main game story beats. I did adapt things I picked up over the years being in the nuzlocke forums community (changed a lot since I joined, and still evolving!)

GIven how I had finished the other comic in a few months, I had naively thought it would take me 3 years to get it all out.

...It would actually take me 6 years.

I think me going through different life changes definitely affected my pacing for drawing Myths of Unova. No longer I had the free time or the energy of a college kid. I decided to go through medical school and graduate school and would finish the main nuzlocke story late 2017, years before my actual MD/PhD graduation. I had hoped to make/finish a "minisequel" called Episode Grey before completely graduating...you'd think I would learn that such fast turnaround was not going to happen but lol. Post-doc woes/COVID fucked up a lot of things too, making me take breaks for mental health reasons. Now I am in a more stable life situation and "back" on the project but it is significantly slower. But I am stubborn and will work on it until the end. I still got my files of the next pages and it is being worked on slowly!

Even when I change fandoms and interests, I will always look back at this project fondly. Sure not all the stuff I wrote/drew aged well but hey, it is a time capsule of my work. The number of people who told me (anonymously or not, through various means) this comic made a positive impact means a whole lot, and I am not kidding that I have tried to save most of the comments/fanworks you guys have sent me.

How long will it finally all end? I have no idea. But I hope (whether you joined my wild ride from the beginning or more recently) that you had fun experiencing my creative works.

PS: drawing my "old" comic style was a wild ride god it is a jumpscare to me
