Meghana Rao albumfic: The Other Side of Time

I started this way back in June of last year, and before I fall into an editing black hole, I’m declaring it finished!

I present fourteen stories exploring everyone’s favorite grumpy time-manipulating mechanic, each story inspired in one way or another by Mary Fahl’s album The Other Side of Time. Aside from the sheer perfection of the album title, I think Mary Fahl’s deep, sometimes brooding voice works well for Meg’s demeanor, especially in some of her darker moments.

This gave me a really good opportunity to explore a lot of facets to Meg, from her angstmuffin moments to her reckless moments to her happy moments to her downright dorky moments. There was a LOT I learned here. And I’m rather proud of the fact that I got to explore her relationships with all the Selan kids - everyone has at least one story where they feature prominently.

(Bonus tidbit: While writing #4 I was listening to a lot of the Drakengard 3 soundtrack. I think the melody used in the song for the final battle ended up heavily influencing the format of the story, so I guess that one has two bases for inspiration. XD)

And the circus folks! 

Reshmi and Zandra are twins and both take part in an acrobatic act in the circus. Often their theme is “angel and devil” but their personalities don’t match that much. Reshmi is always pessimistic, snide, and is never really impressed with anyone or anything, while Zandra is the more extroverted, friendly, and excited of the two. Both act as right-hand-men (in this case women) for Kye.

Harper has a daredevil act in the circus, whether it be being shot out of a canon or riding through fire hoops. Often incorporates her hoops in some way, shape or form. The main hoop around her waist is the main one she uses for portals, but she has other smaller ones around too.

Victor is the clown of the group; literally. Making any situation pretty much a joke, even when he probably shouldn’t. Though funny he’s pretty mysterious as well, since he doesn’t talk much even those closes to him don’t know much about him personally.

And the last two little pics are Kye’s white kyurem and black kyurem designs! Maybe I’ll do a full ref for them later, but for now that’s all I got.

Hope you guys enjoy! It took me forever to figure out Reshmi and Zandra’s designs, but I think they came out pretty nice!
